A flamboyant archeologist known worldwide for his trademark Indiana Jones hat believes he has identified the site where Cleopatra is buried.
Now, with a team of 12 archeologists and 70 excavators, Zahi Hawass, 60, the head of Egypts Supreme Council of Antiquities, has begun the search for her tomb.
In addition, after a breakthrough two weeks ago, Hawass hopes to find Cleopatra's lover, the Roman general Mark Antony, sharing her last resting place at the site of a temple, the Taposiris Magna, 28 miles west of Alexandria.

I’ve this guy many times on TV.
He’s one of the few Egyptians that has figured out how to market himself to the West.

"Hes one of the few Egyptians that has figured out how to market himself to the West." Yep. He (Zahi Hawass) is the phony who is often filmed being "the first human to enter this tomb in X,000 years" -- and the tomb is already equipped with shoring timbers and electric lights...
Charlatan!!!

Point of order: Zahi Hawass is not “known worldwide for his trademark Indiana Jones hat.”
He is known worldwide for being a tremendous camera whore and self-appointed spokesman for Egypt’s antiquities.
He’s as bad about self-promotion as any shameless huckster we have over here.

I’ve seen this guy on several programs. He strikes me as a government bureaucrat more than a professional archeologist.

Your suspicions are, from my vantage point, entirely correct.

Hawass is a typical corrupt third-world bureaucrat and fraud. The German engineer who developed the robot to explore the air shafts in the great pyramid, Rudolph Gantenbrink, was banned from further exploration on some made-up technicality so he could steal all of the credit (which I've since read Hawass doing exactly that).
There are other intriguing features on the Giza plateau that are worth further scientific scrutiny which have been stymied by Hawass until he can claim full credit for other people's work.

I understand Hawass did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania.

I understand Hawass did graduate work at the University of "Pennsylvania."
This is correct and he has a Ph D. Unfortunately, he's saturated with the zeitgeist of a 3rd-world bureaucrat and is self-promoting.
