Kelly, 61, who is also a retired Marine sergeant, was immediately tested to see if he was a match, and as luck would have it, he was.
It was really admirable to see these two men who had defied fear in battle and situations of severe adversity to come together, Molmenti told FOXNews.com. Now theyre fighting the biggest fight of their whole lives and they're helping each other with this precious gift.

Ex-Marine donates kidney to fellow Vietnam veteran -- -- Newsday.com
Never heard of such a man.
Never heard of such a man.
That's why I didn't lead the post with the Newsday article :-)
Marine Corps bump
Don’t hear of too many retired sergeants, either : )
I believe all dialysis patients are evaluated for transplant options at the onset of treatment.
I know that the mean life expectancy on dialysis isn’t much longer than that which Donahue had reached.
Kelly didn’t just improve Donahue’s quality of life, he saved his life.
This is a wonderful story, thank you Stoat.

This is a great story about brotherhood among the marines. But, the statement that they are helping each other is a bit misleading. It seems to me that the donor is the one who is helping and the other one is receiving help. Never-the-less, giving a kidney does have some great effects on your life too. It’s not all negative. Prayers of friends and strangers are very powerful, and the knowledge that you are relieving someone you care for of a lifetime of dialysis (which is not a day in the park), can be so rewarding.
Wonderful story. Thanks for the ping.
Thanks for the ping.....great story.
I have never heard of an ex-Marine either.
What a great story of two fine Marines!
Thanks for the ping.
There are plenty of them: Murtha, Glenn, Carville, Dellums, Ritter, Kovic, Garwood, Lonetree, Dennehy, Oswald, McFarlane, etc.
