Congressman Proposes that Government Establish a "Reasonable Profits Board"
NEALZ NUZE ^ | MAY 23, 2008 | NEAL BOORTZ

Politicians have been coming up with all sorts of fancy schemes to combat the current gas prices ... they've done everything except actually come up with a logical, long-term solution. But this hairball scheme, out of all the schemes out there, might be the most ridiculous to date.

Here are the basics:

http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23183.html

** Representative Paul Kanjorski is a Democrat from Pennsylvania. His plan would establish a "Reasonable Profits Board" in which the government will determine whether or not a company's profits are excessive.

** H.R. 5800 would tax industries' windfall profits. The bill would set up a Reasonable Profits Board to determine when these companies' profits are in excess, and then tax them on those windfall profits.

** As oil and gas companies' windfall profits increase, so would the tax rate for those companies.

** Kanjorski said his legislation will encourage oil companies to lower prices to prevent them from receiving higher tax rates.

How completely asinine is this jerk's idea? Clearly he was educated in the same Marxist school as Barack Obama and these other liberals who despise the idea of the free market.

I'm not through with this crackpot idea yet. I know many of you have read "Atlas Shrugged." Now maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't there a similar government entity in that epic book? It's been a while since I read it, but I would swear that this Kanjorski idea was lifted straight from that book.

Remember --- for politicians like Kanjorski, you really only allowed to earn profits selling something or providing some service that the people don't actually need.

Just how long do you think it would take for politicians - anti-capitalist politicians - to start working to add other consumer items to the jurisdiction of the Reasonable Profits Board? The pressure would certainly be on to get food added ASAP. Then it would be pharmaceuticals. Oh ... and if you'll remember that story from earlier in the week about "affordable" weight loss clinics ... let's add those too.

Idiots like this Kanjorski need a little more attention from you.

Here's his web page http://kanjorski.house.gov/

Sounds like the begining of a new book by Ayn Rand.

This is just one of the many things that will be passed by the Democrat Congress and signed into law by President Obama.

Those planning to vote third party or stay at home would do well to consider this.

Is anyone going to entertain the idea of having hearings into the obscene profits and price gouging by Congress? Seems to me their prices have been going up since about 1913, with no end in sight, and for what? We can’t even see or touch whatever it is they produce. And, besides, with global warning, there’s no longer much of a market for hot air, not that there ever has been.

A side-by-side comparison of the increase in government profits with oil company profits makes it clear who the real gougers are. Maybe all these hearings are really just a diversionary tactic.

And, at least in the consumer market, including oil, there is price fluctuation, and prices have actually been known to come down. Ever seen that in government?

Kanjorski has been leftward of left for his entire career. In his heart he is a Marxist.

Hm...

They should establish a committee to see if taxes are too high and if politicians make too much.

Certainly shines a light on the cost of government versus the price of government, huh? The price of our current government permeates all the things we value in this country.

Idiocracy

Of course it would be a democrat who would propose a law that would impose government control of prices, something that the left really wants.

So when Bill Clinton goes out and gives a speech for a couple million dollars, will that be reviewed?

How about when some idiot democrat writes a book that becomes a bestseller because the unions buy up all the copys they can get their hands on. Will those profits be reviewed by this board also?

I’ll go along with that if they establish a “Reasonable Tax Board” staffed by taxpayers making over 50K a year; and a ‘Reasonable Congressional Salary, Bennies, Perks, and Junkets Board” staffed by taxpayers and business owners.

I read that article at mises.org. There is really nothing new there. Anyone with even a little bit of familiaratiy with the Nazis already know that. They absolutely controlled the prodiction of any goods during the Nazi regime.

Here’s the link to the bill: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.5800.IH:

Note that the bill allocates the “excess profit” to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

A three-member board (appointed by the President) would determine what profit was “reasonable.”
