Iranians Would Welcome Airstrikes, Sources Say

As Barack Obama and John McCain thrash it out over how they would deal with Iran, voices from inside Iran are weighing in with an unusual message: If the United States strikes hard and fast, we will support you.

Emissaries from inside Iran have been meeting with Iranian exiles in Europe, the United States, and elsewhere in recent weeks to deliver this provocative message, which they claim comes from pro-U.S. dissidents at the upper-most levels of the regime.

“U.S. airstrikes must be powerful and sustained enough to break the myth of the regime’s absolute power and reveal the weakness of the leadership,” a former official who traveled outside of Iran recently said.

The United States should target the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards Corp, the offices of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and that of his predecessor and rival, Mullah Hashemi-Rafsanjani, Iranian sources say.

The goal should be to carry out sustained airstrikes over a 48-72 hour period that would “decapitate” the regime.

Such a strike would send a clear message to the Iranian people and to disgruntled officials throughout Iran’s faction-ridden government that the United States is serious about confronting the regime over its bad behavior in Iraq and is willing to strike the leaders responsible for that behavior, the Iranian sources argue.

Sounds like we’re more popular in Iran than we are in the Blue parts of the US...

I really wish we could help the Iranians get rid of their government without screwing that up... but I can’t see a way to do it. No way any sort of airwar can be intense and thorough enough to fix the Iranian govnerment and not mess up the rest of the country.

“All-out support of Iran's opposition groups (military and political) in a concerted attempt to topple the mullahs would be my choice.”

Agree... the strategy expressed here is not viable... too many end games. A popular up rising planned so that we can support it rapidly as a revolution for freedom is much better in every respect. There needs to be real leaders in the forefront not exploiters like we saw in Iraq. If leading Iranians will put their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor on the line for freedom we should support them... otherwise we need to contain them and isolate them as much as possible.

There are no free elections in Iran, despite what
the liberals, msm, and generally naive want to portray.

Thanx for ping.”The goal should be to carry out sustained airstikes over a 48 to 72 hour period that would decapitate the regime.”Sounds good to me.Could airstrikes alone do the job?I’m not knowledgeable re: military/covert ops,but i believe it would be a good idea to offer support(weapons, logistics, etc)to Iranians willing to take on what’s left of the regime. We need to eliminate these neanderthals permenantly.

The more air strikes the better for Tehran’s Islamic tyrants. The sooner the safer — for our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan!

You would be astonished at how many Emails and messages come to AntiMullah.com from inside Iran asking for just this “decapitation bombing” regardlesss of collateral damage.

Have you, by any chance, looked at how many originate from the same subnet? ;-)

Good humor but I have not been able to ID any trend, social structure or tribal affiliations.

many of them come through “second hand” via family members, who I doubt encourage the death of their relatives. I hope not!

Most of them are also in reaction to certain events inside Iran rather than a “hit us and hit us hard” bluster.

I believe sincerely stories like this are being orchestrated not by Iranian sources but by our own government to start laying the groundwork for the strikes they already have planned.

I believe sincerely that Mr. Timmerman and NewsWax would like for these stories to be true, and are "reporting" on that basis.

More than a bit of irony here Ayatollah's grandson calls for US overthrow of Iran.

The grandson of Ayatollah Khomeini, the inspiration of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, has broken a three-year silence to back the United States military to overthrow the country's clerical regime.

Pull a typographical map of Iran. Take a good look at all the terrain changes in the country. Think about all the time Iran has had building reenforced ground to air missile batteries and other air defense facilities.

Think about the Straits of Hormuz being blocked resulting in no tanker traffic. Think about oil at $250/bbl. Think about fuel/food riots. Think about a democrat controlled government (socialist and marxist) trying to address the economic and strategic crisis we find ourselves in.

Think about the re introduction of the draft to support a 3rd front in the WOT.

Think about war with Iran when you weigh the facts and costs.

I’ve heard that before, that Khomeini’s grandson was against the mullahs...the epitomy of irony. Or perhaps “irany”...

Sweet. Let's do it. November 4, 2008--29th anniversary of the hostage crisis. What better a day?

Perfect! Muslims have a thing for anniversaries as it is. I'm sure they would appreciate the irony.

Yeah, but why stop after that?

Exactly. Don't stop till every military installation is rubble, then bounce the rubble. And while were at it, take out those opulent villas that the the Iranian leadership live in. They need to pay a personal price.
