Iranians Would Welcome Airstrikes, Sources Say

As Barack Obama and John McCain thrash it out over how they would deal with Iran, voices from inside Iran are weighing in with an unusual message: If the United States strikes hard and fast, we will support you.

Emissaries from inside Iran have been meeting with Iranian exiles in Europe, the United States, and elsewhere in recent weeks to deliver this provocative message, which they claim comes from pro-U.S. dissidents at the upper-most levels of the regime.

“U.S. airstrikes must be powerful and sustained enough to break the myth of the regime’s absolute power and reveal the weakness of the leadership,” a former official who traveled outside of Iran recently said.

The United States should target the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards Corp, the offices of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and that of his predecessor and rival, Mullah Hashemi-Rafsanjani, Iranian sources say.

The goal should be to carry out sustained airstrikes over a 48-72 hour period that would “decapitate” the regime.

Such a strike would send a clear message to the Iranian people and to disgruntled officials throughout Iran’s faction-ridden government that the United States is serious about confronting the regime over its bad behavior in Iraq and is willing to strike the leaders responsible for that behavior, the Iranian sources argue.

48-72 hours? I think it would need to be more surgical and swifter than that.

Yeah, but why stop after that?

Get it done, take the same attitude that TDR had when he instigated the revolt that produced the Panama Canal:

“Congress talked, I did”

High risk stuff to be sure, bold to be sure, but my goodness the Iranians are not playing tiddley winks in those nuclear facilities.

What? GWB’s approval would drop to 10% I bet he is concerned about that...:)

How about one great big muther of a muther?

50 megaton

25+ mile high mushroom

In tehran.

Very high on the swiftness scale, maybe not very surgical.

I believe sincerely stories like this are being orchestrated not by Iranian sources but by our own government to start laying the groundwork for the strikes they already have planned.

I’m more civil. I would tell congress they have 24 hours to decide on an energy policy. After that I would take out all of Irans oil production facilities.

Destroy China without firing a shot.

I don’t care if we later find that all they were doing in their nuclear facilities was growing mushrooms. They have been killing our guys in Iraq...kill them back.

Demand unconditional surrender after 24 hours of bombing, with a warning that the next bombs will be Nukes.

No more talk....kill them now.

Yeah, but why stop after that?

If you don't know already... well, I'll leave it to others to educate you.

Ignorance is not always bliss; it can lead you into major errors, even defeat.

Gator113 "xibits his publik-skewl ignorants." It's no wonder the world (outside of a few folks like the Iranian people) hate Americans. We can't even figure out who our friends are. Gator113 wants to kill 'em all!

Remember how hard it was to get Saddam?

Supporting a coup would be a more realistic possibility.

I agree with sionnsar - there is entirely too much ignorance on display in this thread. It was ignorance of this type that paved toe way for the revolution that brought Ayatollah Khomeini into power and essentially ended life as it was known in Iran (a once powerful ally to the United States and a force for peace in the Middle East). I believe that a surgical strike to the heads of this monster régime would bring a reaction from the people that would surprise everyone. The people need weapons to defend themselves and to take control. Once that is done, all things are possible. But all this foolish talk before action will jeopardize any action. Just shut up and get busy. These people are waiting and dying while they wait for their liberation. Iran azadi!

Crazy Eddie.

Limp-brained dipstick would take a population seething under unpopular (and partially foreign) rulers, and generally pro-American (by all sorts of reports by visitors, including many threads here on FR) and turn the entire population against us.

Instead of a simple surgical strike, we'd have to go in en masse WWII style.

Simply brilliant.

Have you thought about running for federal public office? You seem really well-suited for same; your thinking is of the same low quality born of ignorance.

You would be astonished at how many Emails and messages come to AntiMullah.com from inside Iran asking for just this “decapitation bombing” regardlesss of collateral damage. Messages even emanate from those who feel they would probably perish as part of the innocent deaths of civilians.

They argue that they are being killed off by the Mullahs and have little to enjoy in the lives they lead, so if takes their dying, so be it.

They totally reject with disdain that an attack on Iran would have Iranians join the Mullahs in opposing the West as a purely Mullah ploy to try to prevent an attack and not as something based in fact, since the Mullahs are so hated that only fear of their suppression forces prevents them being murdered by the populace. Specially without someone or something on the horizon with which to replace them.

Iranians returning for various urgent reasons to Iran also say that if the USA bombs the heck out of the country while they are there and kills them so be it.

There appears to be a fatalastic readiness to accept their own deaths if it’s by an effective foreign attack as opposed to going into the streets and dying uselessly at the hands of the Mulllah suppression forces.
