There’s Too Much at Stake for Conservatives to Shrug Like Atlas
North Star Writers Group ^ | May 19, 2008 | Nathaniel Shockey

Posted on 05/19/2008 5:35:51 AM PDT by Dukes Travels

Conservatives don’t love John McCain, but unless they’re considering abandoning their cause with Atlas Shrugged proportions, there’s no way in hell they’ll vote for Barack Obama.

Sometimes, things have to get worse before they get better. And with that idea in mind, the conservative movement really is America’s crutch.

The most specific example is economics, as conservatives constantly preach lower taxes and greater individual freedom. One would think that the Bush tax cuts, which have yielded continued economic growth (yes, our economy is growing, despite the lies you keep hearing), and the burgeoning economy during the Reagan Administration would provide enough proof to, at the very least, convince people that maybe, just maybe, there’s something to be said for lower taxes.

Good article...thanks for posting! He’s been good for Az and we’ll be proud to have him as President.

You’re not an adult. You’re a sheep. McCain is pointing his finger to a cliff labelled the death of conservatism. You’re happily walking towards it.

NO, conservatives will just NOT VOTE! I even have neighbors who are dems & they say they are not voting for a president either.

Numerous people I have talked to say the THREE choices are horrible for our country, so not only will conservatives not vote, but there are dems that refuse to vote for Hussein Obama!!!

I’ve never seen anyone advocating voting for Obama here so it would be a null list.

What do you think our chances for lower taxes of any kind will be under Obama?

Ha ha ha! He admits he's going to raise taxes & he has such HUGE plans for so many programs, we will be taxed into poverty, by the time he helps Africa & every other cause on his agenda!!!

You can rationalize your decision not to support McCain all you want, by labeling him a socialist. Saying it doesn't make it true.

I care little for McCain. But I much prefer him to Obama.

BTW, McCain, the "maverick," has "crapped" on Republicans in general, as much as he has "crapped" on conservatives. So I disagree with your point.

Cute. Maybe you people in Arizona like McCain, but he is no conservative no matter how many times he tells me he is. We wouldn’t have problems like this if we did have some adults.

Don’t bother. McCainiac’s heads are shoved so far up...

They can’t see daylight anymore. They worship him as much as dems worship Obamassiah.

Now, honey why are you asking such a question?

Look, I didn’t vote for my choice, I voted for Romney to keep McCain out. I can’t believe you would even consider defending McCain. Surely you haven’t given up on this country that much. Don’t you realize your candidate was eliminated by the McCain machine? I believe we’d be better of with Obama....everyone will hate democrats when he’s done.

You can alwasy smell a McCain basher...one not mature enought to vote for someone who is gets 85-95% conservative marks from all the groups that track such things.”
>>>>>>>>>.........................
I do not have to let someone (paid groups)pick for me..
when I rate mccain I do it on:
free speech - neg
open border - neg
tax cuts he voted against - neg
global warming taxes - neg
judges-group of 14 votes for Ginsberg and Souter
gitmo- close it down
waterboarding
on my list of criteria he gets a “ZERO..”
For someone who is a GOP shill and who’s main interest is
keeping the GOP in power I guess you will be happy if
the GOP runs the constitution into the dirt and makes this
a socialist welfare state. that’s not my idea of conservative values thank you.

Now there’s a hell of an endorsement. McCain is going to crap on all of us, just as he always has.

I heard that steaming load in In 1996. And 1998. And 2000. And 2002. And 2004. And 2006. And here it is again, stinking up 2008. Flush it already.

A vote for McCain means endless McCains.

Cut Conservative losses, don’t sit it out, vote 3rd Party, let your vote be counted.

We took 8 years of Clinton, a Democrat for 4 years won’t be the end of the world.

The leftward direction is one of several important considerations in a primary, and the reason for my violent opposition to Giuilani.

Now, our eyes are on the general, and my primary consideration is the leftward direction of the country. I don't understand how you can't see that.

Is party more important to you than country?

I believe you've actually made my point.

So it's time for conservatives to muck out the stable.

1) I always vote. I think it is a civic duty and privilege.
2) Voting for politicians only seems to encourage them.
3) If God had intended us to vote he would have given us candidates.

Party is part of it. If the party goes, will the country be recoverable? Or will there be multiple conservative parties splitting the vote and allowing more McCains/Obamas in?

McCain’s ideas will attempt to kill the country every bit as much as Obama’s. Just slightly slower. Whoopee.

The entire point is allowing McCain to be elected will encourage more of this behavior. Your vision is limited to the immediate election. You cannot seem to see beyond it. The damage done to the movement, and in turn, to the country by a depressed conservative movement.
