Obama: Israel is a 'constant sore'
World Net Daily ^ | May 13 2008 | World Net Daily

Posted on 05/18/2008 9:53:22 AM PDT by Winged Hussar

Democratic presidential front-runner Barack Obama says Israel is a "constant wound" and a "constant sore" that infects "all of our foreign policy."

Obama, under fire for attracting praise and support for his presidential run from the terrorist group Hamas, spoke to Atlantic Monthly at length about his views of the Middle East.

Asked if he thought Israel represented a drag on America's reputation overseas, Obama said: "No, no, no. But what I think is that this constant wound, that this constant sore, does infect all of our foreign policy. The lack of a resolution to this problem provides an excuse for anti-American militant jihadists to engage in inexcusable actions, and so we have a national-security interest in solving this, and I also believe that Israel has a security interest in solving this because I believe that the status quo is unsustainable. I am absolutely convinced of that, and some of the tensions that might arise between me and some of the more hawkish elements in the Jewish community in the United States might stem from the fact that I’m not going to blindly adhere to whatever the most hawkish position is just because that’s the safest ground politically."

“The lack of a resolution to this problem...”

Obama doesn’t say exactly which problem he is referring to: 1) the fact that Israel is a state which muslims keep attacking? or 2.) the fact that Israel is a state?

I guess they figure the Jewish voters will swallow anything.

They have in the past, why would anything change now?

You can call the Jewish voting for 'Rats "tradition" but the more appropriate word is addiction.

And, actually, it is a non-Orthodox Ashkenazi tradition/addiction in America.

One of my friends took a poll of her family and every single one of them is voting Republican this year ..... but they are Sephardi.

Obama’s pastor seems to question the latter proposition.

As a poor, dumb Southern boy I cannot but think that Jewish voters are more afraid of so called evangelicals who received their license to preach from Jim Billy Bob’s Bible College and Auto Parts Store. Please do not think about these yokels. Many of them would not know Jesus if they tripped over Him. Get a thicker skin when you hear them talk about salvation. The people you should really fear are the libs.

Keep talking Obama, you just lost the Jewish Vote. People were fearful you would be pro Hamas, anti-Israel—Now we know the truth. Keep talking and get McCain elected.

Here's a little prediction for you:

The Jewish vote for McCain vs. Obama will be 40+%. It's not that McCain is such a great candidate, but that he isn't tainted with Islamofascism and antisemitism like "Osama" is.

Practically speaking, a shift of 15% of the Jewish vote to the GOP (as compared to '04) could be vital in keeping Florida and Ohio in the GOP column and possibly even winning New Jersey for the first time in quite a while.

WHY would any self-respecting Jewish American even consider VOTING for this idiot?!?

Because anti Zionist jew's see Israel just the way Obuma does. Never could understand that but it is a fact.

Notice that he fired his adviser. How Clintonian. That was supposed to make it all okay.

Re: “I wish there was a way to shut this guy up until he has a lock on the nomination.”

Why? The more he opens his mouth, the more votes we get for McCain.

New Jersey!? No way! As part of my ongoing series of reports from inside the belly of the beast, I can say that I've not seen a single McCain bumper sticker or poster anywhere. I've seen several Obama ones, a smattering of Clinton ones, and Ron Paul ones all over the place. McCain might make headway here by offering up liberalism as his mantra but in the end, this state will elect an indicted corpse with a (D) next to his name over a republican every time (unless that D is a former governor named Jim...thats a political kiss of death!)

If Obama becomes president, I would fear not only for the nation’s future but for my own personal safety as well.

My Arab friend who served as a US translator in Iraq says that every terrorist in the Middle East supports him because his election would, they believe, give them carte blanche. Especially since he’s a member of the Hussein clan.

I’m not going to blindly adhere to whatever the most hawkish position is just because that’s the safest ground politically.

This interview was given before Bush's speech to the Israeli Knesset. No wonder Obama got so in a huff over that speech.

Obama is put into a corner now - he cannot continue to peddle this line about not being "the most hawkish" and he has to decide if Hamas and Hezbullah are enemies or "people we can reason with".

Nobody credible suggests that either the the 'most hawkish' or that the 'status quo' is sustainable. That is entirely besides the point. What about the status quo must change? Does Obama think we have to negotiate with Hezbullah and Hamas to change the status quo, or does Obama think we need to neutralize Hamas and Hezbullah to change the status quo. The former is appeasement to terror, the latter is by far not the most hawkish view - it is, in fact, the only pragmatic view if you do not support the status quo.

No kidding!

Good gravy, I fear for our Israeli Allies in this uncertain future.

Obama is my pick for the anti-Christ.

The thing that liberal Jews really hate about Rev. Jim Billy Bob is that he knows their secret identity as the original Theocratic, intolerant, rustic, sheep-sacrificin' Bible bangers. All the screams about "chr*stianity" are a mere fig leaf.

Liberal Jews have completely removed Theocratic Israel from their memories and are had much rather Rev. Jim Billy Bob be a traditional anti-Semite who associates them with liberalism, Weimar decadence, and the "money power" than that he look at them and get big hearts in his eyes.

My job in life is to see to it that the Book of Joshua never "goes away."

As to the ignorance of Rev. Jim Billy Bob, it is no different than the ignorance of the peasant folk-versions of all religions. That Jim Billy Bob is somehow singled out for criticism is because he is multiculturalism's despised "other."

They know each other well enough. As Rush has pointed out, the secret is that liberal Jews are liberals first Jews second, just like feminazis are leftists first and women second. Same for liberal Blacks, homosexuals, etc. It all falls into place very elegantly if you apply the simple rule.

That isn't altogether true. Rank and file Blacks, Hispanics, "native Americans," and moslems aren't required to adopt modern liberalism as a personal ideology because to the Left they are "noble savages" whose original religious worldview is uncorrupted and cannot be judged by "western" standards. So long as their visible leaders are loudly liberal and they vote right they are allowed to live their lives in fundamentalist ghettoes (this is what "multiculturalism" is all about). It is only poor Southern whites that the Left demands abandon their religion and become eighteenth century French rationalists before it will even talk to them. Everyone else's "liberation theology" is clothed in fundamentalist terms.

When one considers how successful would be an attempt to give poor Southern whites a standard leftist victim identity one can only conclude that the only reason this is never done is because the Marxist/Hegelian dialectic demands a "bad guy," and they're it.
