McCain Joins Global Warming Cult (Candidate is making himself "Obama Lite")
Real Clear Politics ^ | 05/15/2008 | Cal Thomas

Posted on 05/15/2008 4:13:58 AM PDT by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

In an effort to win over those "moderates" who believe that global warming is about to destroy the planet, Republican presidential candidate John McCain spoke Monday at a Portland, Ore., training facility for Vestas Wind Technology. He claimed, "The facts of global warming demand our urgent attention, especially in Washington."

There certainly is more "hot air" on this and a lot of other subjects in Washington, but that isn't what he meant. The era of big government is so not over, as Bill Clinton claimed it was in 1996. It is just beginning and increasingly the political contests seem to be about who will manage its growth, not who will reduce its size, cost and reach.

Despite a recent Wall Street Journal editorial characterizing his position on global warming as "Obama lite," McCain asserted, "We stand warned by serious and credible scientists across the world that time is short and the dangers are great. The most relevant question now is whether our own government is equal to the challenge." No, the most relevant question is whether global warming is true. Cults ignore evidence and facts contrary to their blind faith. Science should never be blind to opposing views, but the apostle of global warming, Al Gore, and his new disciple, John McCain, want us to believe in a 2008 version of the Pete Seeger anti-war lyric: "we were -- knee deep in (carbon monoxide) and the big fool said to push on."

That "implosion" may well follow the French example.

A short time after it begins those technological wonder weapons will be of little use as they begin to break down with no one around to repair them.

Hang on to your pitchforks!

Be honest, the vast majority of us wouldn’t choose and [sic]of these three to have a beer and pizza with.

Why do you think it is important to choose a President with whom you want to have a beer and pizza with? The last two Presidents were that type to a lot of voters and both were absolute catastrophes.

Maybe you should rethink your criteria in terms of "reasons to vote for a politician" and remove the beer and pizza thing.

That is an especially good idea because there is generally a very low chance that you will asked to drink a beer and have a slice with them.

Newt is drinking the same warming koolaid as McCain. He says in the Pelosi ad that we must do something about climate change.

Or the candidate is making himself “Obama White”. That might steal 80% of Hillary’s support after/if she drops or is forced out...

...do you really believe the American public is so overtly racist...80% would affirm that suspicion...35% or so would indicate an honest difference of opinion, and would be plenty to get McCain the White House...

We are f—ked...

But its our own fault for allowing things to go this far. We have always had the power to change things but were too lazy and comfortable in our cushy lifestyles to bother. It was OUR duty to protect and defend the ideals this country was founded on.

We failed... Miserably...

We couldn’t live up to the expectations of the founders and we lost it.

“all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” And we did NOTHING. Oh... We had a little protest here or a rally there, but only cause it fit into our schedules and it didn’t upset our lives of servitude. We made ourselves feel better by emailing companies, media outlets and our masters in government. We listened to Rush / hannity, etc and filled ourselves will moral outrage.

But... After everything is said and done, we can look back and say we did nothing to save our freedom. We threw pebbles at a battleship.

We have no one to blame for this but ourselves. Everyone should give themselves a pat on the back for TOTALLY dropping the ball and losing what people DIED to give us and defend for us. Nice job... Send a few more emails, or elect a few more socialists from either party, it’ll make you feel better.

Unfortunately his statement is ridiculous on the surface. I’ve been to the Grand Canyon, and I’ve seen numerous pictures of ANWR. They don’t compare. But given that, if there was a sea of oil in the Grand Canyon, I’d drill there.

I think Newt makes a very good point about not letting the Leftist movement own the topic. Conservatives will get mowed down on this (i.e. the polar bears) if they don't have a say in the discussion. Also, since China and India are the world's biggest polluters, why not have a voice of reason demanding that they be held to the same standards as the U.S.? The HateAmerica crowd uses “climate change” as a truncheon to beat down any reasonable argument on energy Independence, nuclear power, or oil refineries. We can all just forget about our own oil if they continue to be the sole voice in the matter.

This is not a situation set in stone. Conservatives have to get in the game if we want to break the stranglehold OPEC has over us. Let's have the damn discussion. Let's see more about the father of the Greenpeace movement now advocating for nuclear energy. Let's push back against the enviro-whackos who want us sitting in the freezing cold dark of the 7th century with their carbon credits and one sheet of toilet paper.

It's a Chicken Little world we are living in, it's time to inject some reason into it.

More honestly for me, and my being an imperfect being and all, I would throw that beer right in his/her face and walk out with the pizza.

These choices make me sick. Thanks for the point. - bill

We let the left own the issue because most Repulicans are too timid to speak the facts. We’ve had no warming in nearly ten years and the same guys who were predicting catastrophic warming are now saying we are going into a cooling period for some ten years. So if we are going to “do something” about climate change, does that mean we now try to arrest the cooling? I’m sorry, but both McCain and Newt have their heads where the sun don’t shine on this issue. McCain is talking cap and trade.

With the left firmly in command, there is no hope that we will start drilling or expand nuclear. Out energy policy has been reduced to begging for Saudi oil and switching to kiddie cars. It will not be pretty.

I found this on Hot Air. Pretty much sums up the problem.

I still believe that we need to fight the Lefties on this issue.

They are also reporting that the swing in Congress will be so large that McCain won’t even be able to hold a veto

Better rethink your logic there Skippy! Democraps don't veto their own policys! You think McCain is going to propose something that Feistein or Kennedy won't like? Think again! We're screwed no matter who gets the Senate and House. Best hope is for Republican retaking both houses and electing Obama to keep him in check!
