Millions of allied soldiers returned home after the defeat of the Hitler regime. Many were unable to speak about the horrors they experienced in Germany. One of those soldiers was Technical Sergeant Harold Bruce Welch the father of First Lady of the United States, Laura Bush.
It was during the "National Days of Remembrance 2005, that Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States, first spoke publicly about her fathers experiences in the war. That he served in the 104th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army and participated in the liberation of the notorious concentration camp "Dora" in Nordhausen. As a child, she had asked her father many times about this time in his life, but he never wanted to speak about it. I think, surmised Laura Bush in her speech, He couldnt bear to tell his child about the evil out there in the world.
What Laura Bushs father Harold Bruce Welch experienced in Germany, can be reconstructed from sources. Welch belonged to a raiding patrol called the Timberwolf in the 104th Division. Together with the 3rd Armored Division, they arrived at the concentration camp "Dora" in Nordhausen on April 11, [1945], and found approximately 5,000 dead and dying. Around two miles northwest of the camp, Welchs division found the subterranean, top-secret production facility for radio-controlled rockets "Aggregate 4 (A4), better known by its propaganda name "V2". Nearly 60,000 prisoners worked here under inhumane conditions for the Fascist war machine.

Honor, modesty, and class... also
so rich in Laura’s side. Read the
last line of the linked article.
God bless and protect this good
and decent family. We have been
so blessed by them and the examples
of the honorable ways they conduct
their lives.
Amen!!!!! We rejoice when the righteousness are in authority !!!!! “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:33)
You have to cut the author some slack. The article appeared in a German paper, and this is a translation.
The original German for that sentence was:
Später rückten die Russen in das Gebiet ein, die Amerikaner zogen weiter nach Westen.
Maybe someone can provide an alternate translation.
We don't know if the translator was American or not, and if she had some knowledge of German military terminology.
Fair enough, I agree then it is likely a translation that was just not clear on that word. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
Of course not. It's an unwritten rule of the media and hollywood (small h on purpose) - No good deeds nor brave actions by any republican or their family must ever see print.
Only about dems - even though they must be made up.
Later integration the Russians in the area, the Americans moved further west.
This is fascinating - I wonder if he knew personally the American soldier Private Galione, who actually went AWOL and FOUND and reported Camp Dora and its inhabitants and V2 rockets to the 103rd.
According to an interview I watched earlier today with the daughter of Private Galione, Mary Nahas, author of “The Journey of Private Galione, interviewed on “It’s Supernatural” (www.SidRoth.org), Camp Dora was actually in the zone of Russian occupation at that time, and the US Army took those rockets (forunners of ICBMs) right out from under the nose of the Russians. Stalin was allegedly reported to be “livid” at this.
Are you a Paulist?
Could the writer, Nico Wingert, be mistaken?
From "Laura Bush: An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady By: Kessler, Ronald,"
"After the war, Harold (Laura's father) took a job as a district manager with Universal CIT Credit Corporation in El Paso. When an oil boom created a need for homes for workers, Harold and Jenna moved to Midland, where he became a homebuilder.
I couldn't find anything about Harold Welch and the Republican National Commitee with google. But I only looked at one page.
You are lost.
No wonder Bush seems asleep. His dad, Granddad all Washingtonians, Laura's. Now McCain, third Generation. Between the finacialist, the incestious Washingtonians, the Country Club elitists. Business as usual. What's the problem, our checks come in on time? And, besides, the Democrats are worse, and we are only screwing up the entire country at half the rate.
As per Yalta agreement. Operation Keelhaul soon followed.
I watched that program on Monday, also, but only saw the last half of it. I wrote down his name to look him up on the web so I could get the whole story. I had never heard any of this before.
