Defying disgusted constituents and angry Republican leaders, disgraced Rep. Vito Fossella has told pals he plans to seek re-election.

And, shockingly, the Staten Island pol is feeling "pretty good," he confided to friends. I got every indication that he plans to run again," said Guy Molinari, Fossella's political mentor, who's been in close contact with the embattled 43-year-old politician.

Fossella is up for re-election in November.

"He's not just inclined to run. He plans on running," said Molinari, a former congressman and Staten Island borough president who was succeeded by Fossella as the de facto leader of the borough's GOP.

Fossella is a complete and utter disgrace.

A man who lives a double life has no integrity.

If his children cannot trust him, why should any constituent?

I don’t know how these people think. The only way he could win would be to change parties.

Not to be cynical, but I wonder who is funding his attempt, and why...

Great point. Just because he says he’s going to run again doesn’t mean he will get a dime in donations.

Did you guys notice that the AP articles made sure to explicitly state which party he is? For Dems, they just oopsie forget to mention it usually.

I would check his affiliation to to the Dems.

It would amaze me to think that anyone would be so narcissistic that they would purposely destroy their entire party just for their own ego.

I would bet the Dems are pushing him forward.

;)

Yes. I’m not surprised at all.

What’s a little DUI? Ted Kennedy killed a girl and is still in the Senate and was almost nominated for President!

Of course Vito forgets only rats can get away with stuff like that.

We will have to unite behind “1” challenger. If he draws several primary opponents, he wins renomination — and loses in November. We’ve held this seat since 1980 and cannot afford to lose it, period.

I hope someone even runs. They may close ranks around him because that’s how dumb they are.

It’ll be exactly like the Carney vs. Sherwood matchup in PA-10. We didn’t earn the sobriquet, “The Stupid Party”, for nothing. :-(

Nobody is happy about this turn of events. It is a painful revelation.
But all of this ‘he is certain to lose” talk might not be right.
The rat will have barack mcgovern at the top of his slate. If there were no other lines on the ballot and it was just McCain versus barack, McCain would win on Staten Island with the maximum attainable number for a Republican of 78%.
If you don't believe that consider that on the south shore in 2000, Bush got 87% one of the highest numbers in a district in the country and probably the highest vote total east of the Miss. river.
In 2004 Bush “fell off” on the south shore to about 80%.

McCain, for reasons of his military record is very popular on Staten island.

So at the top it will be McCain versus barcak mcgovern a man who could not break 30% in half of Staten Island.

In the mid Island section McCain against barack would do 65/35. On the north shore Mccain does 60/40 but only because so many rank and file rats just won't vote. The phony White democrats on the north shore won't show up for barack.

On the second line down we have Vito Fossella a man who has done very bad things to his family, but very good things for his district and our country. He ran a jumbled and disconnected race last time and got 57% while the GOP had a 36% approval rating and was losing the House.

The rat will be running steve harrison a leftist from Brooklyn, whom Vito beat in 2006. Here are his problems: In a year when he had the best shot to beat Vito, harrison could get just 43% in New York City, while his party was rolling nationwide. He has the smell of loser. Next he is in a primary with a tough street fighter named Dominic Recchia who won't beat him but who will bloody him up. I say won't beat him because a leftist like harrison will be irresistable to the rank and file rats and the primary will be after what could be a disastrous rat convention in Denver in August. That will fire the far left up and they will bite for harrison, beliveing he can win. He can't in my view. A Brooklyn leftist with a non Italian name in the most Italian American district in America would not have much of a chance ordinarily, but running with a guy who couldn't break 30% in most of the district makes winning almost impossible.
A match up of Obama/Harrison against McCain/Fossella would see McCain getting 68% and Fossella getting 52% at worst. This is May. November is a long way off. Vito has lots of repairative work to do, but his opportunity is there. If his wife remains silent the democrats will show themselves to be more of a threat to America than Vito's driving drunk and having a second family.

I know his district was carried by Gore. So this is no longer a Republican friendly district. I suspect a lot of his constitutents probably won’t have any probelems with his double life. He is probably the only chance to hold this district. But, still another GOP incumbent makes a fool of himself.

So which wife and family will be in his campaign literature? Maybe both sets?

“Can you believe this?”

It’s called entitlement. Republicans need to find a strong primary opponent.

“He’s gotten a lot of encouragement,” said Molinari. “I told him nobody is going to run a primary against him if you decide to run again.”

Oh, THAT didn’t help matters any. Guy Molinari should have told his protoge to look for work in the private sector.

Fossella’s entire family are Dems. Old habits die hard. You can see that he is hitting the trifecta of Democrat behavior. The only difference between Fossella and other Democrats is that he is willing to sell his soul without selling out his country. Most politicans who sell their souls do both.
