Wake up Conservative Base!

Posted on 05/10/2008 9:11:06 AM PDT by RonnieFan

All indications are the Democrats will pick up seats in both the House and Senate, with the Senate likely being a couple of RHINOs away from the magic 60. McCain is no Reagan but he's the only thing standing in the way of the most liberal Senator in Senate becoming President with a clear majority in Congress and at a critical time with decisions to be made on the war on terror, the war in Iraq, heath care, taxes, illegal immigration and likely the Supreme Court.

Sometimes you do have to pick the lesser of two evils. This is one of them. I am fully aware that I'll be let down by McCain on some key issues but I know I'll be let down on all of them if Obama is President.

The only time we had a chance in my lifetime to roll back the libs was with the Constitutional Option regarding judicial filibusters. We had the votes and after we won we would have placed dozens upon dozens of conservative judges on the bench. But McCain, with his gang of 14, destroyed the opportunity by forming an alliance with democrats. When the issue is abortion and you think you finally have the votes to save the unborn, McCain or one of his surrogates will knife you in the back.

N-i-c-e take.

Thank you for the definition. Seriously, I mean it.

So, let me ask a question... If you break the law, you are fined for breaking the law (which is the usual penalty for illegally entering the US), and you pay the fine, can you now start again to enter the US legally?

Because ultimately that was what the 2006 reform was about. You pay a fine, then you get back in line and start the legal process to immigrate here. Read the actual text of the legislation, not the hyperbole ranted about here.

You pay your fine (which is what the US code calls for now), then you start the process legally.

Would that be appropriate now?

Liz,

Where do you - or any of your relatives work? Anyone work for any electronics company, like Motorola, Freescale, or Intel? Because if they do, they’re helping to sell and support and distribute equipment to Ford, GM, and Microsoft who all support gay rights. So your family supports gay rights.

See, you can’t just peanut-butter the charges like you’re trying. Did Hensley Distributors give the funds? Did McCain? Did Cindy? If not, then you’re just tarring with a broad brush, and I’m sure we can find the same kind of tenuous connection among your own relations and some objectionable-to-conservatives position.

Both candidates are open borders amnesty types. You can’t have national defense if you REFUSE to secure your borders.

Really? Because McCain voted FOR the border fence, and has consistently supported border enforcement. Can you point to ONE bill or vote where he did not?

McBackstabber voted against the Bush tax cuts USING LEFTY LINGO, “tax cuts for the wealthy.” No, I don’t care what lie he is telling you now.

Yep, but there is no denying he's also opposed to increased government spending. He may not always want to cut taxes, but he steadfastly refuses to increase them NOR increase spending.

With a Dim Senate? Juan will give you only judges that Ted Kennedy approves of.

Do you think with a Democrat Senate that any nominee from Duncan Hunter, or Tom Tancredo, or Tom Delay, or even President Reagan wouldn't have to be approved by Ted Kennedy and the other Democrats?

See, if the Democrats control the Senate, BY DEFINITION any judicial appointments would have to be approved by the Democrats - meaning Ted Kennedy.

Now, do you think you'll get more Ginsburg and Breyer appointments with Obama or Hillary! or with McCain, who voted for Alito and Roberts?

It's intellectually facile to cherry-pick the issues---to ignore the facts for which you don't have arguments. The facts are these:

McCain chose a dual-loyalty traitor to be his "Hispanic Outreach Director." McCain said he chose Hernandez because he AGREES with his positions.

Juan Hernandez was born in Dallas and decided as an adult to become a dual-national Mexican citizen. His last verifiable job was serving in Mexican President Vicente Fox's cabinet as Fox's "American Reconquista Director." Hernandez then worked for Bush hater George Soros' international foundations---(one such foundation published Hernendez's book that taunts Americans).

Hernandez believes all illegal Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." The "New American Pioneers" proclaimed in his book are the illegal alien invaders he urges to become settlers in the USA for "Reconquista"---the plan to take back the SW.

No, no, no - I tried to post the distinction that many of us are making, namely, military service does not guarantee the actions or trustworthiness of a veteran. Kerry is unquestionably scum and the truth is, many other veterans are scum, too. Prisons are full of veterans.

So, for a logic refresher, am I implying that all veterans are criminals? No, not at all. I'm not even saying the McCain is conscientiously treasonous. For the record: I can even believe that he's doing what he believes is right. That said, it ain't. Any kind of evolution of Federal power is a diminution of individual rights. Further, America stands alone on the basis of the Constitution - she is NOT a component of a global communality and under thralldom to provide aid, comfort or opportunity to other nations. We respect and aid other lovers of liberty, but NOT the cost of our own.

Simply put, John McCain, despite his service, is an anathema to traditional American liberties. POW service is no kind of basis for putting in McCain in charge of anybody's freedom. In the end, I may vote for him because he is the slow boat to hell vs. the greased slide. Then again, principle may win out and I'll vote for the better candidate and let the Left win - at least we can confront evil openly in a RAT.

McCain is NOT a man to be trusted with my liberties even though he suffered under the hands of my nation's enemies.

“Do you think with a Democrat Senate that any nominee from Duncan Hunter, or Tom Tancredo, or Tom Delay, or even President Reagan wouldn’t have to be approved by Ted Kennedy and the other Democrats?”

You are not helping your case. One of your arguments is over judges, but by your own words McCain WILL NOT get the judges that you say I should vote for him in order to get.
Given McBackstabbers’ love of crossing the aisle to side with the Dems, you are not going to get your judges, give up that pipe dream. He will ask Uncle Teddy “pretty please” and Ted will say no, and then Juan will give him carte blanche on picking the new judges FOR him.

“Now, do you think you’ll get more Ginsburg and Breyer appointments with Obama or Hillary! or with McCain, who voted for Alito and Roberts?”

YES!

There were numerous conservative candidates.

They were just pooh-poohed on this forum and elsewhere.

We are going to get what we deserve.

No...

I won’t stay home. I’ll go out and vote for conservatives on election day.
But the “President” box stays blank.

A lot of people won’t go out, but that is the calculated risk the GOP & John McCain seem completely willing to take.

McCain clearly doesn’t feel he needs conservatives, so why would I (or should I) waste my vote on him?

If he’s correct, good on him. If it turns out he didn’t need my vote, nothing lost, right?

If he’s wrong... well, I bet the GOP won’t try to mess with the base again.

Your initial premise is flawed. Conservatives are no longer the base. We are considered a nuisance.

I agree,

This is a case of “Do we want to run over the cliff?” or “Do we want to wlak over it?” Either way, the cliff is there.

I think the moral of the story here is that you simply don’t get it. Don’t feel too bad, though - you’re far from the only one. There are a whole lot of so-called “conservative” dimwits here who share your hope of installing Hillary or Obama in the White House.

Some of us here will fight to the very end. I’ve gathered the owner does not care for McCain; not many of us do. However, when the primary season started Free Republic was in full-on attack mode against Giuliani and Romney. The official support was for Fred Thompson, a guy who I loved but by all measures wasn’t even interested in running. Duncan Hunter never had a prayer. Since FR had its Giuliani and Romney “Truth Files,” we ended up with McCain. Well, that’s f*cking great. You made your bed, and now you sleep in it.

I for one will never accept your premise. I speak of the notion that America is screwed no matter who gets elected. I hope you don’t have children, because it seems like you would just encourage them to give up at the first sign of difficulty. If your son or daughter turns out to not be that intelligent, what would you do? Would you tell him to be a tradesman and do the best that he can?

America is not screwed. I should add that even if I believed we were, I would fight to the bitter end by electing the best candidate available. I will do everything I can to choose the candidate best suited to continue the success of the United States - even if that candidate is far from ideal. I will not have any part in handing over the country to a Marxist. It doesn’t even matter if McCain were a Democrat - he’s the best candidate left.

You defeatists make me physically ill.

Excellent post.

I think you express the feelings of many, who don’t quite want to be that blunt, but are thinking exactly what you are thinking.

You are absolutely right. I hope that the few vocal “conservatives” who want to enable an Obama or Hillary presidency, even if it will destroy the country, are not representative of most conservatives, who are fully aware of the dangers that Obama presents to the country and will fight and vote to prevent it, by getting out the vote for McCain.

The choice is McCain vs. Obama/Hillary and anyone listening for five minutes to Obama should rush and write a check to help McCain — that is the effect listening to Obama had on me. An Obama presidency will cost us more than anyone can imagine in more ways than one — starting with him raising taxes, continuing with his instituting socialism, and finishing up with being so weak on terror as to encourage terror attacks on us.

Thanks. I have to remind myself that the “take to the hills” crowd on FR isn’t representative of the country as a whole. I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist but based on even my own relatively short history here - which doesn’t top three years including my initial lurking - there is no way all of these anti-McCain people are legitimate.

I can take myself as an example to your second point. McCain was my last “real” choice, not counting Ron Paul. I watched McCain tell Romney what Romney meant when he talked about the war and I thought to myself I don’t know if I could vote for this guy. Well, two weeks of exclusive focus on the leftists and I resigned myself to the fact that McCain is what’s best for the country. I have to hope that that view is more popular than we can see.

And it does not meet the definition of amnesty found in the dictionary. But you go right ahead and define it as you like...

So about your question - he's a demonstrable liar if:

1. We make up a new definition for amnesty

So totally forgiving the multiple felonies that illegal aliens commit on an overwhelming percentage does not constitue Amnesty?

You sir, are the one redefining Amnesty.

Each of these criminal Illegal Aliens has commited at least 2 felonies above and beyond the misdemeanor they commited breaking into our country:

1. Obtaining a false SSN # which is needed to gain employment.
2. Using the false ID to gain employment for each attempt.

Now given that most of these criminals have had more than one job here in the US, that just increases the number of felonies.

Add to that obtaining a Driver's License fraudualently, and that is another felony.

I am not a lawyer, however, I sincerely doubt that the paltry $2000 fine or whatever it was included in the AMNESTY MCAIN-KENNEDY bill does not begin to cover the minimum fines nor imprisonment required by our laws for these types of criminal acts.

That's simply incorrect. It's irrefutably incorrect. On national defense, on taxes, on judges. Total bs.

So when John McCain voted against President Bush's tax cuts and voted against removing the Death Tax, and was pusing McCain Liberman which added 50 cents of tax to every gallon of gas he was proving how much better on taxes he was?
