BARACK Obama has conceded defeat to Hillary Clinton in today's Democratic White House primary in Indiana but, on the back of a win in North Carolina, offered himself up as the only candidate who could truly unite American voters.
"I want to start by congratulating Senator Clinton on what appears to be her victory in the great state of Indiana," Senator Obama told a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina - even amid uncertainty over who had actually won.
CBS News called Indiana for Senator Clinton, but others were more hesitant and, several hours after polls closed, NBC News and Fox News continued to categorise the race as too close to call.
Senator Clinton later claimed victory in Indiana.
Senator Obama thanked his supporters for his victory in North Carolina, which followed a difficult month marked by new controversy over his fiery former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and his remarks that some working-class voters were "bitter".
"Because of you, we've seen that it's possible to overcome the politics of division and the politics of distraction, that it's possible to overcome the same old negative attacks that are always about scoring points and never about solving our problems," the Illinois senator said to cheering crowds.
He paid tribute to Senator Clinton as "a formidable opponent", and, while acknowledging that the results were unlikely to end the long-running and bitter battle between the two rivals, said the Democrats would come together to fight Republican John McCain in November's presidential election.

Noticed that too.
McCain scares me. I don't know if he has what it takes to fight to win. He's all wishy-washy and determined to run an "honorable campaign" while the rats chew him up like a squirrel carcass. Plus, he's decided to throw the conservative Republican base overboard, so there goes any hope of significant grassroots funding. What, he thinks he's going to get enthusiasm and money from know-nothing "moderates" and "Reagan Democrats"? Please... Man, I think I smell a loser right there.
"I know your deeds. I know you are neither hot nor cold. How I wish you were one or the other, hot or cold! But because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of my mouth." (Rev 3:15-16).
I think America may vomit McCain out of its mouth.
Oh, shut up.
That will be interesting. I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more about this militant after he secures the nomination.
LOL...I love you too dear.
I first saw him on Opra and said “he was an orator”....but the message...He says nothing. It’s just a “smooth sound”. EMPTY
Hillary to huddle with super delegates. To rephrase that...”Hillary to lay the “secret files” on the table.”
“Thank you from saving my campaign the embarassment of stolen votes in Gary becoming national news.”
Obama stole it but didn’t get enough to pull it out. And the party would rather avoid the embarassment.
I’m not speaking about the content of his speeches, I’m talking about his oratory skills. If you can’t even admit that the guy is good, you’re living in a fool’s paradise. His audience will fall hook, line and sinker, because they’re IDIOTS. But Bush was a terrible speaker and this guy is good...what is so wrong about pointing out the obvious?
He and his reverend will really unite voters. Those who hate the US of course.
Grooming Hillary (yech) for the VP slot. He won’t be elected without her.
Once again...I wasn’t commenting on the CONTENT of his speeches..that usually has little to do with political speeches anyway. Obama’s a real threat and we need to get honest.
Excuse me, but we don’t need that kind of crap on this website. I’m going to do something I never do and that’s to ask for it to be removed. You make us look like racists, and I resent it.
CUE CARDS? He has no cue cards...prove it. Making believe he isn’t a great orator will not change the fact he is. He’s uplifting. That speech he gave yesterday was a great political speech. Bush was and is a terrible speaker. You’d think after 8 years he would have improved a bit..but he hasn’t.
good for you. Do you really think I give a chit.
Of course not. Racists like you rarely do.
How many days have you spent sleeping next to a good friend who was black. I could not even remember how many I did.
