Obama Descending
Primetime Politics ^ | May 3, 2008 | Michael Barone

Is the bottom falling out for Barack Obama? It’s too early to say that, but there are some disturbing signs. On the positive side, superdelegates still are breaking his way. Rep. Baron Hill, whose southern Indiana district almost certainly will vote for Hillary Clinton, came out for Obama. So did fellow Hoosier Joe Andrew, who previously endorsed Clinton and who was named Democratic national chairman by Bill Clinton in the 1990s. (James Carville may have another name for him.) Obama is still well ahead among delegates chosen in primaries and caucuses, and he is not very far behind in superdelegates, either.

But what about the voters? Here there are some ominous signs. The latest Fox News poll, conducted after the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club, showed Obama’s favorable/unfavorables at 63 to 27 percent among Democrats, compared to Hillary Clinton’s 73 to 22 percent. Suddenly she’s not the only one with high negatives. And 36 percent of Democrats say they would be disinclined to vote for Obama because of his longtime relationship with his former pastor. There’s more bad news in The Pew Research Center poll of Democrats. Obama’s national lead among Democrats is down from 49 to 39 percent to a statistically insignificant 47 to 45 percent.

Doesn't matter. No matter how well she does due to the proportional representation rules the Democrats rule, he will still win the nomination.

Barone is a liberal who hates conservatives. He’s one of those white liberals who’s been “smitten” by the phony Obama.

Hillary is seen now as the Centrist candidate. She is looking more conservative than McCain, which isn’t hard to do.

It is interesting to see the supposed “moderate” pundits come out for Obama. What I’ve noticed is how few Jewish pundits have come out for Obama. I wonder why. And nobody’s talking about that. The truth is, Obama is NOT carrying the Jewish vote—Hillary is. Yet we hear so little about “the Jewish vote” as though it was a taboo subject. For another thread...

The liberal media has done such a good job at portraying religion as hypocritical and as something to distrust that now that Marxist Reverend Wright came out, everyone is apalled.

If it weren’t for such anti-religious vitriol, this could have been given the benefit of the doubt by most people.

I’d say the liberal propaganda has come home to roost.

Purposing over a trillion in new spending, as Hillary is, is NOT "looking more Conservative then McCain". Hate McCain all you want but have the decency to be accurate and honest in your portrayals of him. This sort of hyperbolic nonsense about Hillary sound more like something her campaign stooges would be putting out then something any Conservative should be saying.

We’re not hearing anything about the Puerto Rican vote either. There are 63 delegates and a HUGE popular vote....and it leans heavily for Hillary.

I assume the Jewish vote is moving in a similar way to the Catholic vote - conservative. There was a time when the Democratic party, had values that possibly meant something. True Catholics no longer have party loyalty.

However there are some of us who are Catholic in name only and tend to go the way the wind blows, which is usually left.

Barone is a senior writer for U.S. News & World Report and a frequent contributor during Fox News Channel's election coverage. His political views are generally conservative, and Barone has said he is not a religious believer, although he is sympathetic to and respectful of socially conservative believers. From wiki.

I have never seen Barone as a liberal as you say. I do not know where you get your information.

True, but there isn't much in the way of financial donations in the Puerto Rican community for Hiliarly, why?

Honestly now, have you ever tried to write "Pay to the order of Hillary Clinton Campaign" on a check, using a can of spray paint?

If Obama gets the nomination the media will shut down the Wright stuff and anyone who mentions it will be considered a cretin.

I’m not betting. Those super-delegates owe Bill Clinton.

Remember the FBI files. They contain a lot of information these supers don’t want out.

I did not get his name, but a Republican guest on FOX yesterday said that the Dims our now stuck with Obama and will insure that he becomes the nominee even though he will lose the election to McCain. The dims do not want a complete fracture of the party. They will retake the White House in 2012. The dims also plan on neutralizing McCain anyway considering that they will control the House and Senate.

Me either. That's nonsense. Barone is simply the BEST voter analyst out there, period. He knows the makeup of precincts and districts that are key in every state---why they vote, how they voted, and how they will vote. If he predicted the election tomorrow, I'd put money on a Barone prediction.

The only thing I've ever see him be "liberal" about is illegal immigration.

Barone a liberal? What are you smoking? I have heard Barone speak a number of times at CATO and have read a lot of what he has written. He is no liberal.

If I’m not mistaken, Barone was on C-Span a few years ago, when Bill Clinton was still president, and he was on with another reporter, I think the one who used to moderate a news discussion show following John McLaughlin.

Barone made some negative comment about Bill Clinton, and the other guy got all huffy, and said that Barone sounded like he was dumping on Bill Clinton. He sounded like Bill Clinton’s big brother defending his little brother. I’ve heard Barone on many shows, and he doesn’t come off as a conservative hater to me.
