Pizza is a health food now

Eating pizza topped with tomato paste can help prevent sunburn and premature wrinkles, new research suggests.

A study found that volunteers who ate helpings of ordinary tomato paste over a 12-week period developed skin that was less likely to burn in the sun.

Researchers at the University of Manchester found that the test subjects were 33 per cent more protected against sunlight than another group who were not given tomato paste.

The effect of eating tomatoes was equivalent to slapping on a factor 1.3 sunscreen. Changes were also seen within the skin of the volunteers that counteract the appearance of ageing.

Scientists think an antioxidant, lycopene, which gives tomatoes their colour, can neutralise harmful molecules produced in skin exposed to the sun’s ultra-violet rays. Damage inflicted by the free radical molecules on skin structures and DNA can lead to premature ageing and skin cancer.

Pizza is a health food now

If you leave out the meat. And the cheese. And the crust. ;)

Thanks! We are having a pizza party at lunch today at work and everyone is older than I am (turning 50 next month), so I am printing this out and taking it with me, LOL!

I don’t like a lot of tomato paste on my pizza, just a lot of cheese, mushrooms, and pepperoni. Oh and green peppers. And if it’s not delivered within 30 minutes the tip goes way down.

Pizza has always been health food.

Actually there are arguably health benefits in beer, unfortunately I don't have my references handy.

My facts are never farther away than my beer ; )

The folate found in beer may help to reduce homocysteine in the blood and lower homocysteine levels mean a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

Lab studies have found constituents in beer that lower triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol in mice.

Drinking one beer per day reduces blood clotting so some studies found that cardiovascular patients who drank one beer per day also lived longer.

Other studies have found that women who consume one beer each day have improved mental health.

Drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages in moderation may also improve bone density.

Beer is actually a good source of folate, niacin, magnesium, potassium and niacin.

FREEPER KITCHEN PING

I have known this news for many years. But, now I know why I rarely ever burn. I often eat tomato paste or sauce. All this time I thought it as genetic.

I thought they had decided this some time ago.

They needed a study to determine this?

Honestly, I need to find a job doing the obvious for a living.

I eat a tablespoon of tomato paste daily. I’m confident I get the same effect witnout the extra carbs and calories (with a little salt it ain’t too bad).

I work outside year-round. I’m sticking with my SPF-30 & 50, but I will make an effort to supplement my skincare regime with Pizza! :)
