President Bush entered office calling on Congress to pass the first national energy plan in a generation. He proposed a comprehensive energy plan to encourage conservation and energy efficiency; expand the use of alternative and renewable energy; increase the domestic production of conventional fuels; and invest in modernization of our energy infrastructure.
The energy bill passed by Congress this week paves the way for a brighter and more secure energy future with more reliable, affordable, and clean sources of energy to power America forward. It will help put us on the path to reducing our dependence on foreign sources of energy. Our reliance on imported energy did not come about overnight, and it will take time to reverse.
To Expand The Use Of Alternative And Renewable Energy, The Energy Bill:
Bi-partisonship ? Work together? Not only did this not make oil cheaper but it drove up the price of food.
Presidents serve and rely on advisors. The market is playing games with commodities.
It’s not the market that is doing the gameplaying here.
Don’t forget to include the additional requirements of the
Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/12/20071219-1.html
Increasing the supply of alternative fuel sources by setting a mandatory Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) requiring fuel producers to use at least 36 billion gallons of biofuel in 2022
Reducing U.S. demand for oil by setting a national fuel economy standard of 35 miles per gallon by 2020 which will increase fuel economy standards by 40 percent and save billions of gallons of fuel.
The bill will require all general purpose lighting in Federal buildings to use Energy Star® products or products designated under the Energy Department’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) by the end of Fiscal Year 2013.
The bill will update the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to set new appliance efficiency standards
The bill will establish an Office of High-Performance Green Buildings (OHPGB) in the U.S. General Services Administration.
The Bill Responds To The President’s “Twenty In Ten” Vision And Will Produce Some Of The Largest CO2 Emission Cuts In Our Nation’s History
WELL, AFTER ALL, Y'ALL GETTING THAT BIG STIMULUS CHECK SOON AND YOU CAN SPEND IT ON THE EXTRA COSTS OF GAS AND FOOD.
I WARNED YOU BEFORE YOU ELECTED ME, THAT I WOULD BE THE CONSUMATE, 'COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVE', I JUST NEGLECTED TO TELL YOU I WOULD ALSO BE AN EVEN BIGGER AND MORE DEDICATED, RINO THAN MY DAD. TEE HEE!."
All we got out of that energy bill is a crock of BS.
Sadly I agree with everything you wrote.
I liked to refer to it as a “Lack of Energy Bill”.
****Our reliance on imported energy did not come about overnight, and it will take time to reverse.****
President Bush did nail that one but he should have also included that unless we immediately drill at home that time to reverse will be very painful.
wasn’t this right about the time gas prices started climbing up?
Exactly. No matter how this “alternative energy” is cut it won’t do a thing for the short term without drilling or refinery expansion. Even if congress signs into law expanded drilling off the coast, ANWR or any other restricted areas and expanded refineries or even new refineries we’re looking at a minimum of 3 years to get any product to market. Freezing the filling of the SPR now may put 70,000 barrels a day on the market but it won’t even make a dent in the needed supplies nor the rising prices.
That's about all we get out of the Federal government these days.
Liberal maryland threw out a popular Republican governor because Democrat Baltimore Mayor OMalley promised to not let electric prices that are bought on open market increase(clearly impossible). To further his point the democats sent Repub governor a bunch of worthless bills that punished the electric company and put on illegal price controls so he would have to veto them making him the bad guy. Voters voted their emotions , outrage and put in democrat gov OMally, result??? he signed and pushed a bunch of green bills to raise electric prices even higher than market rates were (no illegal price control bills sent to him) AND the biggest tax increase in MD history.
American voters are heading down the same path, Maryland taxpayers are now killed by the price of everything, all so they could “send a message”, idiots.
* Cease all ethanol subsidies. (If an entrepreneur want to go for it let ethanol be successful on its own merits with good ol American market forces.) Ethanol takes away from food production and the unintended consequence is higher food costs. As diesel prices go up, the cost of farming tips the balance of cost to make ethanol a bad idea. Just say "no" to ethanol! Even Jimmy Carter says that diverting farm production from food to fuel is dumb even HE gets it. This will create only ONE "blend" of gasoline and will cease regional "boutique" blends (gasohols) which are stupid, costly, and meaningless. Trucking custom blends around the country is wasteful. Ethanol blends may actually lead to fewer miles to the gallon, and adds to the cost of production and transportation. Newer cars do not need oxygenated fuels.
* Lift the restrictions in order to drill for oil in Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, and other sites in the CONUS as a matter of national security.
* Encourage the petro industry to construct state-of-the-art refineries and/or retrofit current and dormant ones and crank up production for our newly-accessed oil in the CONUS. Use the "model" of the Joliet refinery, built in the late 1970's (it is still considered 'new' since few others have been built since). The Joliet refinery specializes in "sour-heavy" crude and ONLY cracks US-pumped oil. Screw the "light-sweet" from foreign countries who hate us.
* Make all carbon credit scams unlawful, including "cap and trade" feel-good screwing of Americans. Discrediting Algore should have been a slam-dunk a long time ago. Stop electing Reps who buy into the Global Warming / Global Cooling / Climate Change Hoax. CO2 is not our enemy!
* Construct SEVERAL, regional Pebble-Bed Modular Reactors (or other similar modern designs) that are rechargeable, and cleaner than any current nuclear generator design. Refine spent nuke fuel for recycling. DO SOMETHING NUCLEAR to resolve energy problems.
* Use the residual heat from the reactors above to process motor fuel from coal and/or shale. Even though Clinton "stole" some of the best coal reserves, we still have a lot to use (much of it in Illinois which has high unemployment).
* Become independent enough to make the cartels (i.e. OPEC) inconsequential.
* Lift or cap the tax on gasoline. When the tax is higher than the profit margin, the argument over what is obscene becomes moot.
* List (chapter and verse) all the regulations and laws that need to be repealed in order to drill, and drill now. Use this list as the new "Contract With America for Energy Security". Have a mega-bill introduced that in one fell swoop removes the self-imposed energy embargo. California is dying from self-inflicted denial of oil.
If you squint real hard, and read between the lines, the manifesto will require fewer RINOs and LibDems and the election of some clear-minded conservatives to even consider the above.
You found this old post of mine on GWB. I knew at the time Bush was hanging himself, Get things done my A$$
