Obama’s supporters want us to ignore this story… just push it under the rug. While they’ll align Republicans with any obscure pastor who does or says something controversial, they’re trying to convince us that Obama’s 20-year long close relationship with Wright, including his effective endorsement of him, his church and rhetoric with a $22,500 donation in 2006 is irrelevant.

It must be in some talkingpoints memos. Several pundits and commentators are saying it.

Several are groaning and moaning over Wright's latest comments.

Uh-huh - color me sceptical. Last year Obama was telling Wright he might have to lay low during the campaign. Now that Wright is news, Wright is told to stop slamming America and start slamming Obama. Having Wright pretending to be angry at Obama is a great campaign tactic at this point. I doubt that a friendship that spans twenty years, wedding vows, the baptism of two children and the inspiration of a book is gone, but it's a great way to move Obama into the victim role.

Joe Klein wrote in his blog that he has been to many AME sermons over the years and only rarely heard anything approaching Wright’s ravings.

Wright is clearly in the grip of his own megalomania and has decided to hog the limelight to the exclusion of all else. He is not only kneecapping Obama but also the black church and black-white relations in general.

Every authoritative opinion I have heard is that black churches do NOT ascribe to Rev. Wright’s marxist, racialist lunacies.
