Comprehensive roundup of the event with multiple links to reports, helicopter shots and a shot of rescue personnel working on the victim. A bit too blurry to be gory but be warned - not the nicest subject matter.

You know, the report says the man had his legs severed at the knees by the shark, but the picture seems to show a man with feet lying on the beach.
Last I checked, feet were below the knees.

Yes earlier reports were wrong. It’s not uncommon. Hence the update as the story gets, er, fleshed out.

This is why I don't go far at all into the ocean. If I was meant to be in the same water with sharks I would have been born a dolphin.

I’m in San Diego - and I heard a local report regarding the man’s condition.
Evidently, one of the legs was shredded from the knee down to the ankle, while the other leg had a very deep gash in it down to the bone.
According to the EMT’s the guy had almost bled to death before they pulled him out of the water. The blood loss was so great there was no way he could have survived.
Very sad.

Looks like the shark took him on the surface from the side, then shook.

Yes, that sounds correct from what the report said.

Well, to me, that body looks awfully long. Maybe it’s just perspective of the photo, or maybe the guy was very tall.

That’s predation. I doubt it was an exploratory bite.

His legs were chewed in half. The wet suit kept them from falling out.

I made a deal with sharks. I don’t go in their water if they don’t come down my street.

Although the “experts” on the artsy fartsy channels like to tell us that sharks don’t eat people, this is why I haven’t been in the ocean since I saw “Jaws” in the theater back in the 70s. I have spent a lot of time in Grizzly country though.

22 inch bite radius should equate to a shark at least 15 feet long. Great White.

They really don’t eat people but a bite can kill you due to the loss of blood.

Didn't read the article, but on the news it said he was swimming with a group of people. It also said he was a veterinarian! I know if it was me I'd be thinking of all the animals I'd helped and now I'm getting eaten by one. And thinking to myself - well, so much for Karma. Stupid shark.
