A South Side teenage mother who authorities said no longer wanted a baby because she couldn't go to parties was held on $600,000 bond Wednesday on charges that she drowned her 5-month-old daughter in a bathtub earlier this month.
Rozlynn Rodgers, 19, was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the April 4 death of her daughter, Makalah, at their home in the 7800 block of South Ingleside Avenue. She later told authorities that she drowned the child because she no longer wanted to be a mother, officials said.
Rodgers told police "she didn't want to be a mom anymore because she couldn't go to parties if she had to take care of the baby," Assistant State's Atty. Mary Anna Planey said Wednesday during a bond hearing before Judge Laura Sullivan.
Planey said that Rodgers placed the baby in a full bathtub on the afternoon of April 4. When the child slid under the water, Rodgers sat and watched for several minutes, Planey said. Another person in the house called 911 after Rodgers removed Makalah from the bathtub.

Our ‘education’ system teaches our youth that they are simply animals, that life is accidental, that life has no purpose, that humans are evil, that humans are destroying the world, that there are too many humans, that we are running out of resources, that minorities have no chance.... and anyone is surprised that the youth act in exactly the way they are taught.... that life has no value and that the greatest goal is the attainment of possessions and pleasure.
This does not excuse this girl’s evil. But really, how do we expect people to act when they are taught that there is no right or wrong. We are teaching them to act insanely. No surprise here.

In Chicago this heinous act won’t even raise an eyebrow wirth the city’s leadership. UNLESS, of course, the teen used an assault bathtub to kill the little innocent, in which case Mayor Daley and Friends will be on the tube tonight calling for a ban on assault bathtubs.

Why didn’t she take her to an ER or Fire Station? She didn’t have to kill her.
Earlier cultures eliminated unwanted offspring by leaving them in the woods at night for the wolves, for example.
There aren't woods and wolves in modern cities, just dumpsters, and parents unwilling to use dumpsters have to do something more personal, like drowning their unwanted offspring.
Rant against [in]human parents, for sure, and I'll join you. But let's not inaccurately blame infanticide on "today's immoral/amoral society". This obscenity has gone on forever.
Understand, of course, I'm just as horrified by the practice as you are, and am not excusing it one bit. Just sayin', this is nothing new under the sun.
