He has served with distinction and has led our comeback in Iraq, so he has earned a major four star billet.
Still, I wish he would stay the course in Iraq. I think Odierno gets it, but if he goes back to running the war like a Pentacrat, we'll be in trouble again.

Let’s have the hearings before the elections. He’ll make the Dims look stupid by opposing him, or piss off their base by having to confirm him. Operation Chaos rolls on.

He's taking over Operation Chaos? Has Rush resigned?
Oh, wait... Wrong command. Sorry.

General Petraeus is a good / fine leader - He has served well - But your premise is flawed - There was no "comeback" in Iraq - Reality is war is an ugly business that has ebbs and flows -
This "comeback" you refer to, the gutting of AQ in Iraq was happening on the ground for 8 months (with OP Tempo's you wouldn't believe by trigger pullers nightly)....this was happening for 8 months prior to General Petraeus taking over his current command.
And don't forget, General Petraeus had his own learning curve to get over regarding his decisions in Northern Iraq 03 - If you know what is happening in Iraq, you will understand what this means...

You read my mind. Imagine Hillobama having to choose between calling Petraeus’ leadership a disaster or admitting it’s a success?

Some would say that Gen. Petraeus becoming CENTCOM commander is another sign of a coming war with Iran.

Since McCain's win cannot be guaranteed, it has to happen before November. If Bush wants to deal with this, and there are indications, it will have to be in his tenure.
