Bill would banish teachers who abuse
By Steven K. Paulson, Associated Press
Friday, April 18, 2008

With no debate and no dissent, the Colorado House gave initial approval Friday to a bill that would require teachers convicted of child abuse or unlawful sexual behavior to agree never to teach again anywhere in this country.

One lawmaker read a long list of accusations against teachers in Colorado for assaulting children, then noted those cases occurred in just one month.

**SNIP**

She said school districts do background checks when teachers are hired, but the state currently has no way to determine whether teachers are accused of misconduct or committed a crime after they were hired. Her bill (House Bill 1344) would require the school district to notify the Department of Education if the teacher resigns or is dismissed because of unlawful conduct with a child.

**SNIP**

Gardner introduced an amendment that would require the department to release the names of teachers and school employees convicted of child abuse or unlawful sexual behavior if it denies, annuls, suspends or revokes a teaching license.

The amendment also stipulates that if a teacher signs a settlement agreement with the Department of Education, the teacher must agree to never teach at a public or private school in this country.

Before the bill passed, Gardner read newspaper headlines from 11 cases in February where teachers had been accused in serious crimes. The bill must pass a third reading before it can move to the Senate.

A report to the state Board of Education last month showed that 293 disciplinary actions were taken against Colorado teachers from 1998 to 2007, including 51 sexual assaults on children and four sexual assaults involving adults.

How about also banning teachers for “mental assault” - if caught teaching politically correct but factually false bull squat?

Or, for teaching its okay for Mary to have two mommys..
Or, for teaching global warming is predominately man caused..
Or, for providing contraceptives or assisting with abortions without the parents knowledge or approval?

I could go on...... but to “fix the current” system, one would have to fire most of the teachers and administrators - bust the union and start all over....

Impossible........

Oh I made mistake. I misread the title “Bill would banish teachers who abuse (never to teach again anywhere in this country)” to mean “Bill Clinton would banish teachers who abuse (never to teach again anywhere in this country)”.

When I first read the “Head Line”, I assumed Bill Clinton was the subject and thought, what the heck? But on further reading, it is obviously not that "jerk off" or should it be a "Monica Off".

Impossible, but a darn good idea.

Note that we were all scandalized at the cases where abusive priests were moved from parish to parish. But since we're talking about teachers (who have double or triple the "abuse" rate of priests, and are more numerous), a measure like this would be obviously too draconian.

Now only if they would pass a similar bill for aliens who enter the country illegally...no citizenship, EVER.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.

Like the one here who wanted the boy’s baby but the school turned a blind eye until the media got hold of the story. She wasn’t even given a slap on the wrist and the next district over hired her.

This should be a nation wide law.

Then we would no longer hear about female teachers having sex with their students every week and getting caught then given a slap on the wrist.

I think teachers should be allowed to marry. That would fix everything.

Can you spell, 'Unconstitutional'.

This is akin to asshat Bloomberg passing an anti gun 'crime law' in NYC that effects ... North Dakota.

Yes, if you’re thinking of maintaining the current system. However, there is an idea that our public, institutionalized, govt-controlled school system should simply be abolished. It would be chaotic in the short run, and replaced by private schools and home schools and group-neighborhood schools and church schools that would not be controlled by the leftist agenda and would cost much less to the taxpayer, even considering allowing large tax credits for each child. Public schools are a failure, we are so accustomed to them we don’t realize this is not necessarily the best way to educate our children.
