2008 Election Prayer Thread for McCain/Conservatives: Day 1
April 20, 2008 | Vanity

Posted on 04/19/2008 10:30:29 PM PDT by topher

It is my opinion that we need to pray for our leaders this election.

Many Conservative are disappointed with the selection of Senator John S. McCain. But in one sense, he is the true conservative in values -- he has fought for campaign finance reform -- getting big money out of politics.

This should allow the little guy (or gal) more voice in what this country is doing.

In some religions, it is part of the church service to pray for the leaders of a country (Ukrainian Catholic, for example).

We must pray for our leaders and pray that the Congress that is elected in 2008 will serve our Judeo-Christian country and help restore traditional values.

We need to win back the HOUSE and SENATE.

Additionally, Senator John S. McCain may choose a Vice Presidental candidate that many conservatives will warm up to.

I have heard it once said: YOU GET WHAT YOU PRAY FOR.

Obviously, if we are not praying (and working) for the conservatives values this country needs for this election, then God will not help us.

We must be like the Old Widow who continually went to the Judge. Eventually, the Judge gave in the Old Widom because she continually asked the Judge to see her point of view.

You do know what idolitry is right? I don’t recall seeing Bush Day in Prayer lists in the restrooms I’m frequenting. There haven’t been comments on his posterior or smile either. Where have you been hanging out?

BTW, if nobody has the right to be offended, why did you bother to post this response?

I second Doughty One....

Yes, we need to be praying for the coming election, we need to be praying for a righteous leader to rise up and take the cause..

...we need to humble ourselves before God and seek His face that He might heal our land.

We need prayer like never before.

If this is not the thread to do this...

..than we need a daily prayer thread for it.

To be honest, I sicken at the thought of an Obama, Clinton or McCain Presidency...

..but if God ordains, I accept the consequences.

But while He may yet be found, seek Him and petition for a righteous leader, if you will.

If my people, who are called my my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Yes, of course. Pray for McCain while he betrays conservatism and sells this God fearing nation down the tubes.

Excellent call. Let’s see how irreverent and blasphemous we can get.

If you want to pray for something, you feel you can’t contain your urge to back something with prayer, then pray for the nation as a whole, and quit deifying individuals. Quit starting day in picture threads where folks bow down before the almighty human.

I’ll jump in every thread you start on the subject and trash McCain mercilessly if you do it.

I backed off the Bush threads, but if you start a McCain day in prayer or day in photos thread it’s all out war from here.

You sir, are what is known today as a hater. That's ok. Every player has haters. McCain is a player, you are a hater.

Hmmm. I seem to recall reading about similar rhetorical techniques, used in the past. Ah yes, these kinds of tactics *were* used before...

Shutting down dissent. Making use of the worst kinds of propaganda to advance one's preferred ideologies. Attempting to influence opinions by using fear tactics. Joseph would be proud.

Jeepers, Doughty One, I'm on your side...!!!

If I misworded my post, my bad.

All I'm saying is we need to pray for A LEADER (who is yet to be named, Lord willing)

Back off.

Guenevere, I am very sorry. I believe you, when you say here that you are on my side. I will say that when I read your comments, it looked like you were agreeing only to continue on with what seemed a sortof commentary dedicated to the day in prayer for individuals.

I evidently misunderstood you, and I humbly ask for your forgiveness. I am sorry.

The only reason I have come out so stridently against those threads is because I find them to be blaspehmous. It’s not because I don’t like the Freepers who do it, or the “individuals” they are for, even though I do find some of their policies to be problematic for Christians.

Again. I am honesly sorry.

No problem DO, and I honestly agree with you wholeheartedly...

..but we need to pray for SOMEONE out there ....someone to defend our Republic.....implore the Almighty to send SOMEONE righteous!!!!!

If He chooses not to, then I truly think judgment will be the outcome of this election.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I support praying for the nation here. Praying for the right INDIVIDUALS to come forth to lead, would fall under that category IMO.

Then we can pray that the decisions made by ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS (which would include that person) would be in accordance to God’s plan, and benefit the nation as He saw fit.

This allows us to pray for the good of all of our leaders and the nation without singling one person out.

That way if a guy gets off track, we avoid making it look like we support what they are doing in a setting where nobody can disagree.

That was the problem with those threads. No matter what was said on them, the comments were untouchable. If you wanted to be respectful on religious matters, but disagreed on things that were said about policy, you couldn’t voice it. And I thought that was a terrible situation.

Every one of us supports our nation without exception.

BTW, if nobody has the right to be offended, why did you bother to post this response?

Let's look at the original statement: "You have no right to freedom from being offended."

So from that statement you say I claim no one has a right to be offended. It should be quite evident that statement says exactly what it does. That you have no right to be free from what you may consider offensive.
Exit question for you DoughtyOne is your reading comprehension that low, or are you so intellectually derelict that in order to argue your point you must resort to blatant distortion? Either way I suggest you heed the advice of the 16th president of our nation. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Didn't you take me to task for expressing that something someone did was offensive to me?  Why yes you did.

Well, if that's the way you look at it, then you have no right to express an opinion about something that struck you the wrong way.

Oh well, there is that...

Anotherwords, your precise wording doesn't preclude your actions for being called for what they were.

I’ll tell you how I feel about McCain...just as you do.
He’s a horrible candidate, and I’m not happy he’s our nominee.

There was a time when I said I would never vote for McCain.
However, the more I’ve been learning about Obama, and I’ve learned more about him just today, the more clear it becomes to me that not voting for him would be foolish.

As I said, I don’t like him personally, and I don’t like him as a candidate.
But, I’m afraid that, unless there is a drastic change by election time, I will have to vote for him.

I have no problem with that. It is not the choice I am making but I fully respect your liberty to make the choice you feel is best and I understand the difficulty we (die hard conservatives) are all subject to in this election cycle.
