Charlie over at DVICE is a musician, so if he says this Direct Note Access is miraculous, we definitely believe him. Think of this software suite as Photoshop, but for musicable to change any note to any other note even if it's buried inside chords or other instruments playing simultaneously. Up until now, you could only change the entire chord, not individual notes, which would affect the general feel of the tune. But as you can see above in the video, DNA gives people much more control. I use it. Amazing stuff, but not perfect by any means.
How totally cool!
bump for time to explore
Verrrrrry interesting!
Since I sing in choir (haeding to practice son), I find this especially interesting.
Wow. Thanks for the heads up!
Combine this with the magic pitch machine (gets singers on-key, used a lot for teen pop “artists” who can’t sing to save their lives), and you’ve got the makings of “perfect music”.
The days of overdubbing and bad lipsynching to “make” someone say something they didn’t are passing rapidly. In the next 3-5 years, you won’t be able to tell, even with careful analysis, whether someone actually said what it appears they said.
You already can’t trust photos in magazines, most are heavily edited. Soon you won’t be able to trust recorded video either.

This has got to be one of the coolest audio processing/editing inventions ever. With a standard loop library, you would infinite variability.
I would think it would be a short leap from this software to the creation of actual transcription software. That hasn’t been possible before either.

That would be a very nice feature. I use cakewalk to compose and play along with things, but have to drill down to the notation or piano roll tool to view the individual notes when I need to. The tab feature would be easier for me if they had one.
I don’t trust anyone to sing well anymore unless I am up front and they are unplugged. My daughter is one of the few who can actually sing her great stuff on key all the time every time without “enhancements.” I heard Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel) at a lecture talking about how Shania Twain had all these pitch correction devices for live shows. Disgusting.
Transcription software seems to be the current Holy Grail. The goal is to submit any recorded music to analysis and have produced actual notation usable for publication.
The breakthroughs incorporated in Meldyne would indicate that it is now feasable.

I hope you sing better than you type!.......
