ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: A Republican House member Monday sent a letter of apology to Sen. Barack Obama, after calling him "boy" and comparing him to a "snake oil salesman" in attacking his national security credentials at a weekend fund-raising dinner in Kentucky.
According to a Lexington Herald-Leader blog item, Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Ky., said Saturday that he had recently participated in a "highly classified, national security simulation" with Obama, and said that exercise showed that Obama can't be trusted to make difficult decisions.
"I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button," Davis said. "He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country."
The Obama campaign slammed the comments.
"It's hard to tell what is more outrageous -- Representative Davis' condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America," said Bill Burton, an Obama campaign spokesman.
Yup. And the bleakly hysterical aspect of all this, ultimately, is that not even Obama himself could not have engineered a better distraction from his own woes of the past several days, than that which Davis obligingly provided.
*sigh*
I think you have the “so called” conservatives part right. What they really are is spineless twits.
Ok to call grandma typical white person, but if someone calls him boy it is racist......OK.
He may not have meant it that way, but itis pretty damn well a de facto interpretation, that a white man referring to a grown black man a “boy”, even if he is an aquaintance, is a racial slur. Is it always so? no. But like your example, it’s between people who know each other, and know no malice is meant by it.
I can tell you I’ve already read Democrat talkback, calling it racism.
I dunno, this happened yesterday and the LSM has yet to mention it.
Probably because they can’t figure out a way to leave out the part where Obama got us nuked in the simulation.
Heh. Had that Congressman not made his (alleged) “gaffe”, and then “apologized” for it, nobody would have ever known about this “highly classified, national security simulation”, and Obama’s weak performance.
(Shaking head...) This was a masterpiece.
GOP = Gutless Old Pussies!
So Oprah’s Kid flunked the national security test?
This comment (”boy”) was dumb and masks the real issue: Is BHO experienced enough and mature enough to be trusted with the authority vested in the office of the President?
It’s up to us to stomp this crap out. Meaning PC. Can’t have indians as mascots, can’t say orientals, can’t use the term ‘illegal alien’, can’t publish cartoons with Mohammed, gotta change Christmas break to Winter break, gotta use ‘african American’ instead of black, can’t use Osama Obama’s middle name, gotta send all government employees to diversity trainig....it goes on and on and on and on.
One of my goals is to drive a stake through the heart of political correctness. And in case you think my ire is just aimed at liberals, you are wrong. All the stupid lectures from Huch Hewitt and other conservatives about the “bigotry” of those who don’t want a mormon in the whitehouse grated just as much on me.
Sums it up succinctly.
I wish they were that clever.
So
When we called the French “surrender monkeys” is that a racial thing? I never thought of it that way, but I guess I should apologize to Obama!
Obama is the candidate whose feelings get hurt, who’s always being offended, and misunderstood. He’s the perpetual political victim, the type who when you breathe to hard falls over and screams as loud as he can. He has a political sensitive chin, it’s made of glass, can’t you see?
So be careful if you say anything that might me misconstrued as racial, xenophobic, or just plain mean, because in his open mindedness he eloquently uses race as a means to ward off any attack and he is defining what is allowed to be talked about and what not, since those things he deemed unacceptable are obviously racist, xenophobic, or mean spirited attacks against him or his loving wife.
Obama is a master at the race game. He plays it both ways, as a victim and as a black leader in a black church, with black values etc. The goal is to play the race card, but he cant ever outright say that because thatll alienate the white vote, so its subtle. Likewise he plays the race card in defense. Anything that is thrown at him has been fought off with race, xenophobia, and arguments of mean spiritedness. His middle name, his church, his upbringing, his wifes comments . The defense and counter attack is always the same, but of course he does it in a way thats not seen as playing the race game.
However, now we have a case where the English word boy, obviously used in context of his lack in experience is misconstrued as racist. Yea, got it.
Republicans, Conservatives, stop apologizing! Leave that to John McCain. :)
He drops 20 points behind Hillary in a week because of things HE SAID about blue collar workers, and BANGO...a convenient “racial slur”. I question the timing.
So, in your war on PC...You’d provoke unneeded enmity in
a crucial election season to make a point? Rather a Pyhrric sort of way to fight your battle, don’t you think? Based on what we can only hope was a one time horribly poor choice of desciptor.
Ironic FOFLOL!
Very sadly true.
