China has developed cyber warfare forces and the Air Force has created a cyberspace command to provide both defensive and offensive computer network weapons, a senior Air Force general said last week.
Asked if China was planning a cyber Pearl Harbor surprise attack, Maj. Gen. William Lord, the cyber forces commander, said numerous Chinese-origin probes may be reconnaissance intrusions to determine if cyber warfare capabilities are detected as part of preparation for some future attack.
So when the lights go out, when the traffic lights don't work, when the data in the stock exchange has been manipulated, when the cell phones don't work, when the escalators in FAO Schwartz don't work, imagine what happens within the United States. Imagine that now laid over a command and control ability of any force, he said at a conference of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Air Force Col. Jeffrey Kendall, who appeared with Lord, said China has been among the most active players in the cyberwarfare arena. Chinese hackers took down a White House website in 2001 and in June 2007, the Chinese military was behind an attack on the secretary of defenses unclassified email systems. And in August 2007, 28 defense contractors were targeted by Chinese hackers.

Iran more of a threat than China, my ass, Mr. President.
They are allies.
China Ping
Worst part is, for some of what they want to do they can take advantage of millions of internet connected American computers unprotected by their ignorant owners.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Cyber Command was setup to combat all threats to our information systems.. not just from China.
And for all you AF buffs.. the commands emblem is based on the Strategic Air Command emblem.. so in effect. SAC is back with a new mission.
Even scarier.
See this new contract Lockheed won?

Lockheed is reselling the RFID technology from Savi Tech for China to brings us this technology.
Look what some buried intel says about that:
Savi Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, and Hutchinson Port Holdings, a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Limited of Hong Kong, controlled by Chinese billionaire Li Ka Shing. Savi Technology owns 51 percent of Savi Networks and Hutchinson 49 percent.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, a Washington-based foundation, charged that Hutchinson is “a front for the Chinese government,” citing a Central Intelligence Agency analysis from 1998 concluding that Li Ka Shing “is directly connected to Beijing and is willing to use his business influence to further the aims of the Chinese government.”
Last month Defense issued its annual report on Chinese military capabilities to Congress, which included sections on increased use of information warfare. Philip Coyle, senior adviser for the Center for Defense Information, a Washington-based think tank focused on defense and security issues, said that if the Pentagon is “going to keep making China out to be an enemy, DoD should have security concerns about a Chinese-owned company running a U.S. Army information network.”

Their influence in US politics and economics is at this point surreal, and the average American doesn't even realize it. They have major influence on the hill through lobbying, contributions and other efforts. They own T-bills in large quantities. The regime has allowed China to become the first worlds sweat shop, and in the process US industry has become in broad sectors largely “dependent” on China for production. The Chinese government pays for schooling in Chinese in US schools in part, this includes textbooks and other materials that of course have a very favorable spin to things. Check it up, in US schools you have the Chinese government subsidiesing the education of Chinese language programs and this includes the learning materials such as books etc.
When Matel was burned for lead paint in toys, Matel more or less took the brunt of the blame and they were told by the Chinese that if they pass the buck, they will be banned from production anywhere in China. Matel gave specifications of what they wanted and lead paint wasn't part of the picture. It's scary to think how much influence they already have. BTW, what do you hear reference cracking down after 63 Americans die from tainted blood thinners? Not a word from the Hill. Is that because they are so pragmatic and level handed? Or is it because half of them have Chinese money in their campaign purse?
What irks the hell out of me is how long it has taken for this total no-brainer of a move to occur.
We should have started a cyber-space defense corps years ago, when it became obvious how important the internet was becoming and how vulnerable we were to hostile hack attacks.
China is way ahead of us on this.
That just warms my heart. Did you send that to Duncan Hunter?
Why would they want to screw up their best market, if the lights go out nobody is going to be shopping at WallMart. If our economy tanks they are going to be left holding a bunch of worthless paper IOUs.
I should. Maybe I will.
Congressman Duncan Hunter Interview with Hugh Hewitt:
Excerpt:
Duncan Hunter: You know this last report on China actually received lots of criticism from the State Department because it was very candid about assessing this enormous growing military strength of China. The assessment of the Pentagon was they are doing so much more then they have to do for self defense. They are building an offensive capability. When they shot that satellite out of space on January 11th, because Americas military eyes are largely in space, that really hurdled a new era of military competition between the U.S. and China in space. Like it or not, if you have to rely on satellites for movement of special forces or army brigades or marine corps divisions, you have to rely on satellites for that, and your satellites are in danger, you are in trouble. So we have our eyes, our military eyes [on China]. Plus a lot of our economic capabilities are reflected through our space apparatus. You have to protect that. We are going to have to spend a lot of money now and take a lot of effort to neutralize what is an aggressive Chinese policy in regard to space.
Hugh Hewitt: Lets talk about the media and China. I asked you about this on the radio yesterday, how many questions have you had about China in the course of the Campaign. You have been on the trail for how long?
Duncan Hunter: We have had 4 congressional debates now and we have been out campaigning hard this entire year. We had one great question, I think it came from either Brit Hume or one of his team, during the Fox debate in the South Carolina, last question of the debate to me on China. I was able to give, you only have one minute answer, I try to be a master on the compact answers, I laid out that we have this cheating on trade which is stacking up billions to China and they are using this money to arm. This presents a long term challenge to the United States. Maybe not a direct threat; but a military threat is comprised of two things, capability and intent. They certainly are building a capability to cause us a lot of harm. And the intent of China is always difficult to understand.
Those tough old communists that ran the Politburo are still running things. We see these generals make wild statements like, We hope you value L.A. more than you do Taiwan. That is a thinly veiled threat to nuke L.A. Then there will be a flurry of newspaper statements by people saying well, general so and so didnt mean it. Well I hope general so and so is pretty far away from that nuclear trigger. Because that is a wild statement. You see those wild statements that came out of Yunnan Island where the American plane was shot down or was forced down, and the wild statements that came out of there diplomacy core after that were tempered by their trade people. But it shows us there is a element of leadership that is embedded in the Chinese hierarchy that is very aggressive, very anti American and very war like. It is difficult to know which element of the Chinese leadership is going to dominate the government in 5 years.
(snip)
China scares me too.
