JERUSALEM (AFP) - An Israeli government minister warned on Monday that Israel would respond to any Iranian attack by destroying that country, public radio reported.
"An Iranian attack against Israel would trigger a tough reaction that would lead to the destruction of the Iranian nation," National Infrastructure Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said in remarks of rare virulence.
"Iranians are aware of our strength but continue to provoke us by arming their Syrian allies and Hezbollah," he said during a meeting at his ministry.
Ben-Eliezer, a member of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's security cabinet, stressed however that the Iranians were unlikely to attack as "they understand the meaning of such an act".

Iran has plenty of proxies in the neighborhood by which to do mischief without directly and publicly attacking.
They would, too. I figure it would take Israel about 3-4 days to totally obliterate Iran. 80% of it would occur in the first couple hours, then a few days for cleaning up the stragglers as they stagger out of their festering, cemtex-and-cordite-choked rat-holes.
Proving once again that, in the words of Paul Harvey, “We are not one world.”
Can you imagine what would happen if Colon (misspelling intentional) Powell had stood up on Sept. 12, 2001 and said something like “Okay, Saudi Arabia, you sent your 19 finest to do damage to us, now we’re gonna send 19 of our finest (ICBMs) over to turn you and your desert land into one large pain of glass”?
1) The Saudis probably would have died of laughter, and
2) The lefties in anti-Progress would have had a non-stop press conference demanding the drawing and quartering of Powell for hinting at such a thing, while at the same time begging forgiveness from every Arab since Muhammed for having insulted the “great Islamic religion”.

I really think the Arab world as a whole really don’t get it. That Israel will wipe the floor with their turbans if provoked hard enough.
I really believe that is the basic problem here, the little dog has no idea the big dog can and will kill and eat him if so provoked.
Further, they can scream Ali Akbar, Jihad, Jihad, Jihad and woogity boogity all they flippin want, the fact remains that Israel can and will change the face of the entire middle east in a matter of hours if they so desire.
Exactly, Iran would maintain plausible deniability. And Condi would be on her soapbox urging restraint.
Doing whatever by proxy means little to Israel. If it believes Iran was ultimately behind an attack, it will respond. Period.
They might not mind sacrificing themselves if it meant the destruction Israel.
Exactly. Iran can and will give up a lot if the end means the total destruction of Israel.
It is for this reason that Hezbollah and Hamas exist.
