The California congressman who called the Sept. 11 attacks "simply" a plane crash ran for cover Wednesday under a barrage of ridicule from fellow Republicans, first responders and victims' families.
San Diego GOP Rep. Darrell Issa was under siege for suggesting the federal government had already done enough to help New York cope with "a fire" that "simply was an aircraft" hitting the World Trade Center.
"That is a pretty distorted view of things," said Frank Fraone, a Menlo Park, Calif., fire chief who led a 67-man crew at Ground Zero. "Whether they're a couple of planes or a couple of missiles, they still did the same damage."
"New York was attacked by Al Qaeda. It doesn't have to be attacked by Congress," added Long Island Rep. Pete King, a Republican.

His wording is stupid but he is right, how many billions need to be thrown at this event?
All of the above. He is also Arab.
He went on: “I have to ask ... why the firefighters who went there and everybody in the city of New York needs to come to the federal government for the dollars versus this being primarily a state consideration.”
-Not even a weird statement. Sounds like the truth. Sure, lets throw more money on it. Just like Katrina. And yes. It simply was plane crashes. Yes, we failed as individuals on those planes to stop the terrorist. We don't need to give terrorist even more credit than they deserve. We expect gov’t to fail, what happened on 9/11 was also a failure of the individual.
Just as long as a truly conservative Republican is who ends up replacing him!
Those were not plan crashes. Those planes were used as missiles. Al Qaeda attacked AMERICA that day. They attacked America in New York.
How many plane crashes do you know that killed 3000 people?
How is the damage and economic fallout from an attack by a foreign power (Al Qaeda) on one of our cities a “state consideration?”
Preparing first responders for future attacks on America is absolutely a federal task if there ever was one.
Issa is a disgrace.
Katrina was a predictable event that Louisiana and New Orleans should have been prepared for and failed. 9-11 was an attack on America and no city or state should have to bear the brunt of the implications of such an attack alone.
“All of the above. He is also Arab.”
yup
Well, looka here:
“On April 5, 2007, Issa met with Syrian president Bashar Assad to discuss Middle East issues, one day after Assad met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi’s visit brought strong criticism from Republicans, including President Bush.”
As many billions or trillions as it takes to put the right thought in the heads of all muslims around the world.
NEVER ATTACK THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
It is not the Feds job to train the NYC fire department nor is its job to protect you. You have your own responsibility to take care of yourself. The Fed is simply there to protect the Constitution and ensure your Rights are protected, anything beyond that is a mistake.
Issa is simply saying its the State of New York who has to protect itself. That is pretty a obvious statement.
Pearl Harbor was just a bombing exercise and V2 rockets were just fireworks. /sarcasm
ANd tell me exacty how does giving away billions to those injured, billions for rebuilding and billions more for whatever the city and state decide telling the terrorists that they should never attack america?
We could give Hillary, Schumer, and the like the entire federal budget and they still would scream that the rest of us are miserly no goods. They are democrats after all.
Now you’re revealing yourself to be a complete moron.
The planes did not kill 3,000 people? The buildings did?
How wonderfully Clintonian of you.
Actually, it was the “terrorists” who killed 3,000 people.
You are clearly unfamiliar with the United States Constitution if you think that it is up to the individual and the states to defend against a foreign attack.
That might be the dumbest statement I have ever seen on this board.
The reason NY gets so much funding is because it is of strategic importance to the United States and is an obvious target for foreign terrorist groups wishing to attack America.
So what does that mean exactly? Is there something wrong with being Arabic?
Send treats to the troops...
Great because you did it!
