Those were not plan crashes. Those planes were used as missiles. Al Qaeda attacked AMERICA that day. They attacked America in New York.

How many plane crashes do you know that killed 3000 people?

How is the damage and economic fallout from an attack by a foreign power (Al Qaeda) on one of our cities a “state consideration?”

Preparing first responders for future attacks on America is absolutely a federal task if there ever was one.

Issa is a disgrace.

Katrina was a predictable event that Louisiana and New Orleans should have been prepared for and failed. 9-11 was an attack on America and no city or state should have to bear the brunt of the implications of such an attack alone.

Of course they were plane crashes. And, no the planes did not kill 3k people. The buildings, yes, the planes no.

It is not the Feds job to train the NYC fire department nor is its job to protect you. You have your own responsibility to take care of yourself. The Fed is simply there to protect the Constitution and ensure your Rights are protected, anything beyond that is a mistake.

Issa is simply saying its the State of New York who has to protect itself. That is pretty a obvious statement.

We don’t need FEMA expanded. We need to make sure that at all levels of government, people wanting to help aren’t turned down because “we have enough help.” We had minor flooding in Stamford; the National Guard was across the street helping people to get out of their flooded homes. Firefighters told me not to go into the water, even though it was knee deep.

With Katrina... I think officials at all levels of government through the affected area failed to act. That’s the mayor and governor. Somebody should have had the power to order an evacuation. Maybe Bush ordering it through the National Guard commander for the state?
