ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A large cross in Orange County is causing quite a controversy. It stands 199 feet tall and sits in front of the First Baptist Central Florida church on Good Homes Road near Colonial Drive.
The church says it wanted people to realize a church was there. While some like the cross, others are concerned it could ruin the landscape and set a bad precedent for allowing large signs in the area.
"It's a cross. It serves no other purpose other than to let people know we're here," said Wil Santiago.
Others disagree with it.
"It's a waste of money. It's also ruining the view. Florida is known to have flat lands," Adam Tanzi said.
The church said it spent $1 million on the structure and county leaders made an exception for them to build the big cross. Church leaders hope it will attract more people to the church so more people will hear the word of God.
Here it comes...
Lost people trying to look beyond the cross - They cannot see that NO view in life is greater than from the foot of the cross looking up at what our Lord Jesus did for us!
So, if one guy is upset, that justifies the demolition of a religious structure? Oooooooooookay. We can play that game. But I have to tell you the US won't have any mosques in about a week and a half.
I bet if it was a big, honkin’ minaret nobody’d have a problem with it.
1) It's not your money.
2) As you say, Florida is flat. What view?
I think Christians should start complaining about being offended by Muslims and their mosques. Let’s see where it takes us.
This sounds like liberal thinking!! It's not Adam Tanzi's money - so he should not be trying to tell people how they should live or spend their own money.
So - Florida is known to have flat lands means to him that no tall structures should ever ruin that flat appearance!! I guess everything should be built underground to preserve that image for him.
shhhhh! that’s a hate crime.
Wait ‘til they start putting up the minarets for the mosques. Those things rise hundreds of feet and look like missiles on the launch pad.
Yeah, I have been to Florida numerous times, and each time I look at their view and say, “Huh?” Okay, nice sunrises and sunsets. But that is all they have!
"Get it out of here....you're killing me."
Adam, go $@%(&$@#((%@&^)_())!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unless Adam attends this church, it's none of his business how they spend their money. If he wants a say, then he needs to join the church and volunteer to serve on whatever committee makes these decisions.
Wow! That thing is huge! I think I’ll take a ride over there some afternoon and take a picture before some ACLU type sues to tear it down!
“If he wants a say, then he needs to join the church...”
He would then end up finding out that he is not, in fact, the center of the universe. Never gonna happen.
And broadcast loudly 5 times a day. At least that cross isn’t making any noise. Adam seems to have forgotten the whole concept of private property. I’m willing to bet if somebody tried to tell him what he could or couldn’t have on his property, he’d have a different view.
Whenever I see a cross in the distance, it brings me comfort.
These people wouldn’t like all the trees we have around here....
