Reform mayor now faces a slew of felony charges
It could be an item on a David Letterman Top Ten List of "How to Know Your Mayor is Headed for a Major Scandal" - he's known as the "Hip-Hop Mayor." That's what they call Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, now famous for text messages detailing the affair he had with his chief of staff. Kilpatrick had denied the relationship under oath in a lawsuit brought by two police officers Kilpatrick allegedly fired to cover up his personal misconduct. He has been indicted on eight felony counts including perjury and obstruction of justice. This would just be another dreary entry in the long annals of misbehaving politicians if it weren't for the backdrop of a decaying city. Elected at age 31 in 2002, Kilpatrick was supposed to bring youthful vitality to his job, and he talked about reform. Now, he's just another tragedy to befall Detroit, a city whose decline is - as psychologists put it - overdetermined, but stands as a stark statement of the failure of urban liberalism.

Mayor Kwame---married father of three---was charged with perjury after steamy text messages undercut his sworn testimony that he didn't have an affair with a top aide. Kwame was also charged with conspiracy, obstruction of justice and misconduct in office...... His former COS, Christine Beatty had denied under oath that she and her boss had a fling, was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice. The probe began after the Detroit Free Press published excerpts of text messages going back to 2002. "I'm madly in love with you," Kilpatrick texted. "I hope you feel that way for a long time," Beatty answered. "In case you haven't noticed, I am madly in love with you, too!" Kilpatrick wrote, "I've been dreaming all day about having you all to myself for 3 days."
Wonder if Beatty got a raise---er ah,I mean, a hike in salary? Can't think of ANY other reason why a woman would bed down with the likes of Kwame.

The riots of the late 60’s? I lived there then. I remember the national guard sitting in a jeep on the street corner with a machine gun mounted on top.
I think the idea that Liberalism has ruined many large cities where Dems have rules as well as State Legs. where Dems have ruled the roost for years and years, is very proveable.The welfare state, food stamps, spending on failing public schools, scandals like this character, Spitz, Patterson, and on and on it goes. Ca. is now the Soviet Republic of Ca. as far as failing schools goes. Illegal immigration, sanctuary cities now are raised to holiness by liberals. The cities and states with liberal Dems in charge have made it their job to turn our free enterprise system into a socialist pacifist governining authority and the media has put its stamp of approval on such systems. Detroit, NYC, Balti., Philly are all failures and Dems-liberalism is an underlying reason why this is so.
These cities have become third world sewers.

Has anyone ever seen a picture of Kwame in which he doesn't look like a total thug? Seriesly.

He’s refusing to resign, and our idiot governor is refusing to remove him.
