'Green' bill could result in higher utility costs
Log Cabin Democrat ^ | 3-30-08 | RACHEL PARKER DICKERSON

In a recent newsletter to Conway Corporation customers, CEO Richard Arnold presented his concerns about Senate Bill 2191, a bipartisan measure to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Senators Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John W. Warner (R-Va.) introduced the bill in October.

Arnold said he has concerns that, if the bill is passed, not only will it mean an increase in rates for Conway Corp. customers, it could be devastating to the U.S. economy and even fail to have the desired effect.

According to an online press release linked to Lieberman's Web site, "the America's Climate Security Act is projected to reduce total U.S. greenhouse-gas emissions by as much as 19 percent below the 2005 level (4 percent below the 1990 level) in 2020 and by as much as 63 percent below the 2005 level in 2050."

"With all the irrefutable evidence we now have corroborating that climate change is real, dangerous and proceeding faster than many scientists predicted, this is the year for Congress to move this critical legislation," Lieberman said in the press release. "If we fail to start substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the next couple of years, we risk bequeathing a diminished world to our grandchildren. Insect-borne diseases such as malaria will spike as tropical ecosystems expand; hotter air will exacerbate the pollution that sends children to the hospital with asthma attacks; food insecurity from shifting agricultural zones will spark border wars; and storms and coastal flooding from sea-level rise will cause mortality and dislocation."

*Grinds teeth and clenches fists*

This is what outrages me the most about the environmentalists and the global warming freaks; their fear-mongering is causing the government to push crap like this on the American people, crap that is essentialy screwing them over on the basis of something that still hasn't been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I hope the government and the environmentalist nazis have a good explanantion when we follow all their BS and end up jumping into the fire over something that turned out to be hot air.

Wait until the utility bills double over crap like this. Failure to accept that coal is our most abundant energy source for electricity and the exorbitant costs of natural gas and alternative fuels. Nuclear is another viable option but the “greenies” won’t allow that either.

The Greens give a whole new meaning to the concept "less is beautiful."

Then, the liberals will cry "women, children, and minorities hardest hit!" before imposing price controls, all the while blaming Republicans and evil, greedy capitalist pigs for "price gouging."

When I see "greenhouse-gas emissions" I emit an expletive. When it says "green" I see red, as in communist red! When they say "greenhouse-gas emissions" what in the hell do they mean? CO2?! Hell, all that does is keep this planet alive for crying out loud! Without it we die! It is not a bad thing. When we stop emitting CO2 we are dead.

Would that be before or after the Federals implement Individual Climate Change Taxes in a system similar to current income taxes? "Saving the Earth" would be the perfect excuse for the Federals to monitor and to micromanage every single day of a citizen's life, from cradle to grave.

Forget shadow of a doubt, it hasn't been proven at all. Zip. It is all speculation with loose associations. That's simply because the facts don't really matter. There's an agenda and that agenda is more important (to them). You find that with hard lefties, the ends justify the means.

That's what its all about. If you can tax carbon - you tax the stuff of life. It would put government right into the heart of every individual and business activity in the country. In the name of reducing global warming, we'll have to give up all the freedoms we've taken for granted.

How can John Warner continue to serve in the Senate, given how awful his health is? He should be recalled. He is so pathetic.

This seems to be the only solution they have for solving their imaginary"global warming". Money. Money solves everything doncha know. Just wait, a "carbon tax" is coming soon to gasoline as well. Where will these tax revenues go? In politicians and their buddies pockets of course.

To say that increasing the cost of electricity and fuel will reduce consumption has been proven over and over again that this simply is not so. If you need it you need it, the increased costs are taken from spending in other areas or passed onto the consumer.

This is nothing more than idiotic socialist thinking which will do nothing but drive the economy further into recession -or worse.

“’Saving the Earth’ would be the perfect excuse for the Federals to monitor and to micromanage every single day of a citizen’s life, from cradle to grave.”

We’re more than half-way there, IMHO. It is absolutely maddening!

The more they push this cr@p on me, the more I WANT to pollute and waste energy.

I’ve planted more than 100 trees on my property in 10 years. I’m not planting any more. Screw ‘em. My work is done and all of the oxygen they produce is mine! (Well, as soon as I finish my “bio-dome,” LOL!)

Man, I hate these idiots. I truly do.

Several utilities are giving their customers the option of paying a small premium on their bills for “Green Power”. This premium goes to a non-profit organization that administers this program. They distribute payment to providers of wind, solar, and hydro power.

I sent an email to this organization in North Carolina asking if there were enough power being produced to equal the power being bought with this premium. They said there wasn’t, but they were expecting it in the next few years.

In my book, this adds up to another government promoted scam.

They won’t impose price controls, they will create energy subsidies for the hardest hit.

"In my 28 years in the Senate, I have focused above all on issues of national security, and I see the problem of global climate change as fitting squarely within that focus," Warner said in the press release.

National Security? Give me a frikken break.

"With all the irrefutable evidence we now have corroborating that climate change is real...."

I guess he forgot to add that part that we are seeing one of the earth's normal cyclical climated changes and that we have had a minimal impact on it.

Don't cut your nose off to spite your face. A properly managed woodland which includes planted trees should grow a half cord of hardwood per acre per year. That's not even counting the hickory, walnuts or other crops you could get from them.

We have a governor who has done some amazing things to get noticed by Obama. Recently she decided, on her own, that we couldn't build a needed coal plant. Then she assured our largest electric provider that if they would put up some wind turbines there would be no limit on their rates. We have a utility regulatory board, but they are weaklings and have acquiesced to her. In Kansas, our rates are guaranteed to skyrocket. We're going ‘green’ so she can get out of here.
