Barack Obama blasts pro-Hamas Op-Ed
Jerusalem Post ^ | March 24, 2008 | RON KAMPEAS/ JTA

Posted on 03/23/2008 7:19:29 PM PDT by rdl6989

Sen. Barack Obama says that a pro-Hamas op-ed printed in his church's bulletin was "outrageously wrong."

In an issue dated July 22, 2007, in a section titled "Pastor's Page," the Trinity United Church in Chicago reprinted an article by Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzook. The article, which originally appeared as an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, justifies the Palestinian terrorist group's denial of Israel's right to exist.

The church's pastor, Jeremiah Wright Jr., who retired this year, has stirred controversy for Obama's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination with statements likening Israel to colonialists and blaming attacks on the United States in part on its support for Israel.

In slamming the Hamas piece, Obama noted that he strongly rejects some of his longtime pastor's views. "I have already condemned my former pastor's views on Israel in the strongest possible terms, and I certainly wasn't in church when that outrageously wrong Los Angeles Times piece was re-printed in the bulletin," Obama said in a statement e-mailed to JTA late Thursday.

Sure, but Bubba was just using him for a post-Monica photo op. Nothing like being mentored for 20 years.

If he says he disagrees with BLT, then he is a fraud for staying at the church.

I made this point on another thread: Stop applying conservative ways of looking at this. In my experience, a conservative looks for ways to wrap his brain around his pastor's thinking, and failing that, looks for another church.

For liberals, and a lot of middle-of-the-roaders, if religion is a part of their lives at all, it usually tends to be simply social in nature. You can sit in church, and disagree with your pastor, and be perfectly fine with it, because you're there for your family/neighbors/culture, etc. You know you might have a new pastor in a year or two or ten, so you ride it out, knowing nobody's going to call you on it for sitting in that church.

Obama might find this to be a problem in the general election, but with Democrat voters, this really doesn't mean too much for most of them, they've all got some sermon that they wished they hadn't heard, either.

“Blah blah blah. You still will not leave your hate spewing “Church” and will not cease to have a vile bigot as your “Spiritual Advisor.” Nice try, Barry.” # 2

Let him keep this up and the Dems may have to have a 3rd candidate chosen in a brokered election...Neither of the two leading candidates is fit to get through the WH Gates much less to sit in the Oval Office...This has to be the worst crisis in the history of the Democratic Party..Screw ‘em....The lefties pushed for it and now they got it...two pieces of toast-burnt and burned out toast...

Uhhh, no you haven't. He's still your friend and you're still a member of his flock. If you can't figure out what "the strongest possible terms" are, I sure as Hell don't want you leading this country, you weasel.

Just don’t buy Mr. Obama’s explanation. The oped piece was published nine months ago in the church bulletin, and he’s only complaining about it now?

Couldn’t have been too offended if it took him that long.

Indeed. I keep looking at him through this lens.

If he were a white politician who attended a white nationalist/seperatist church which spewed racism and anti-semitism, then he woulnd’t make it past the first debate let alone the first primary. In a sane world, no bigot would get far in politics.

The other thing that does not pass the BS test is this: Barry says that Wright has been his close friend, mentor, and advisor for about 20 years. So, during all this time, the “Reverend” never said, “Barack, let me tell you about the sermon I am working on for this Sunday.” During all that time, Wright never expressed his nutbag views? Sorry Barry, my BS-o-meter is pegged beyond maximum.

EXCLUSIVE: Must Cite Debbie Schlussel and/or DebbieSchlussel.com ****

Responding to criticism by Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen, Barack Obama declared his strong opposition to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan:

I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan.

Obama also went on to condemn his Church’s award to Farrakhan and his minister’s tight relationship with him.

But a former Obama insider says that Obama’s sudden aversion to NOI and Farrakhan is belied by the fact that Obama employed and continues to employ several Farrakhan acolytes in high positions on his Illinois and U.S. Senate campaign and office staffs. I have verified that this person—who agreed to talk on the condition of anonymity—held a key position in the Obama campaign. The insider was so close to Senator Obama that they frequently personally discussed and exchanged direct e-mail messages on campaign and policy matters. This person is not connected with the Clintons and is not a disgruntled employee.

When will he DENOUNCE the cult of “Black Liberation Theology” and its authors, preachers and followers?

Think of it as the same as asking Senator Byrd to denounce his KKK past, and Ted “the swimmer” Kennedy to denounce his drinking and womanizing and murdering ways.....

It always works for Democrats — in fact - it enhances their careers..

In response to outrage expressed by many, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan issued the following statement regarding remarks made by Sen. Barack Obama during Tuesday’s presidential debate.

Mr. Tim Russert questioned Sen. Obama regarding Min. Farrakhan’s Saviours’ Day address and his complimentary remarks concerning the Obama campaign.

“Those who have been supporting Sen. Barack Obama should not allow what was said during the Feb. 26 presidential debate to lessen their support for his campaign. This is simply mischief making intended to hurt Mr. Obama politically.”

Well said -- Barry cannot describe his relationship to BLT in a way that both explains why he has been in this church for 20 years and also retains widespread support among whites and hispanics. BLT is the end of Barry's campaign for President, whether he realizes it or not -- but the MSM will spin desperately to try to postpone or avoid the day of reckoning!!

"But what will really do him in, what he will be unable to answer or spin, is whether he agrees with the tenets of Black Liberation Theology which his Trinity UCC was founded upon. If he says he disagrees with BLT, then he is a fraud for staying at the church. If he says he agrees with BLT but not with how Pastor Wright espouses it, then he is done. Either way it is the BLT question that will be the gotcha moment for poor Barry
