Someone, Give Ben Bernanke a Hug
LA Times ^ | March 21, 2008 | Joel Stein

Posted on 03/21/2008 9:23:24 AM PDT by Notary Sojac

The Fed's job is simple: Don't let the economy get too excited or too depressed. To do that, it gives the nation a steady supply of economic Zoloft. But Bernanke seems freaked out that his meds aren't working, and now he's getting taken advantage of. And because he uses taxpayers' money, we're getting taken advantage of. (snip)

.....nobody besides the Fed is panicking. People are bummed because their houses are worth less, but people were bummed because their tech stocks were worth less, their alpacas were worth less and their Ugg boots were worth less. But your average American isn't freaking out. A CNN poll this week showed that people's main economic fear is inflation -- which is what you get when you print a lot of money, like the Fed is essentially doing by giving so much away. It makes money fun to borrow and not worth saving, which is how the trouble started in the first place. (snip)

I appreciate the Fed's frantic gestures, but housing prices really are plummeting, and I'd rather hit that bottom as soon as possible. It's a hard choice, but I'll take lower inflation, less national debt and a stable future over job growth right now.

This seems like a good perspective.

The Fed shouldn’t be devaluing our dollar to help stupid people recover from stupid decisions from stupid risks.

Quit printing more money, balance the budget, pay down the federal debt, eliminate the IRS and quit borrowing money from our enemies...
it ain’t rocket science...

I don't mean to be rude, but you're living in a fantasy land.

Circa 2020, because of diverging demographic imperatives, our nation will fall apart at the seams.

The best we can hope for is some sort of a peaceful secessionist movement, where the "Red" areas and the "Blue" areas go their separate ways, but the worst we should expect is the very real possibility of a leninist-bolshevist tyranny which implodes upon itself in all manner of bloody chaos.

Make your preparations now.

We are all gonna crawl into caves, eat dirt and die, right?

If I were you, I wouldn't joke about that.

It's very easy to imagine our demographic imperatives forcing many of us into precisely that fate.

All I’m doing is suggesting solutions...
it’s up to the electorate to see that they are enacted.

OK, define what our demographic imperatives are and what they will force us to do, if you can.

Say the Rosary daily, get to confession often, follow Our Lord in all things, for He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Do you promise that you won't report me to the Admin Moderator and ask that I be banned from Free Republic?

Because I need to keep this account open for the Huma Abedin research.

Rabbits breed faster and are cheaper to feed. Good stew.

In 12 years, this country is going down in flames?

I trust that you’ve got your backyard bomb shelter with 145 years of food and water already stocked, right?

There are some of us that believe in making this country viable; there are some that believe in opting out and preparing to razz the rest of us when it doesn’t.

Trouble is that the razzing will not happen because the country isn’t collapsing.

No, I'm being serious.

I don't want to get into this topic and then have some namby-pamby do-gooder go reporting me to the Admin Moderator to have my account banned.

Can we talk about this like adults, or are you going to play games?

The Aztec (or is it the Mayan) calendar has 2012 as TEOTWAWKI. The Rosary and a rabbit hutch, that is the answer.

Actually, it may be earlier than that - 12 years is an optimistic estimate, which hopefully will give those of us who care some time to prepare for the worst.

This subprime fiasco [which very nearly threw the world's entire financial system into depression] is just the tip of the global demographic iceberg.

And re-arranging your deck chairs isn't going to do you any good.

They can't afford that - too many big, politically connected insiders will get crushed. They have to string it out so as many of the losses as possible can be shifted to the American taxpayer/saver/investor. It's Japan, 1990 all over again.
