Vandals dumped a bucket of red paint on a downtown veterans memorial this morning, the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, in what police suspect was a symbolic act of protest. Passers-by spotted the blood-toned paint on the Anchorage Veterans Memorial, in the Delaney Park Strip off I Street, during the morning commute and reported it to police. The soldier's helmet was blood red, with the paint dripping down to the ground below.
"There's a movement across the country, since it's the fifth anniversary of the war, to protest," police Lt. Paul Honeman said.
Police say they are investigating the vandalism as a crime, and the responsible party could be facing charges of malicious destruction of property or felony criminal mischief, depending on what it cost to clean up the paint, he said.

Ping.
Just Damn
Symbolic act of protest? BS!
It is a HATE CRIME and should be treated as such! We need to beat this trash with their own medicine.

I agree with you 100%. “No nation has ever benefited from prolonged war”...Sun Tzu.
Wars are costly both in terms of human lives and financially and support will be eroded the longer it lasts. With Sadam firing SAMs at our jets patrolling the no fly zone, we could have taken out his military and all of his defenses.
I am for projecting our military power punitively, not through this nation building non-sense that will never work. It has us bogged down in one country while other regimes build up their arsenals and defenses against us. A few targeted shock and awes in Iraq as well as a land invasion in Afghanistan, backed up by demands on Iraq under threats of future air attacks would have been the right way to fight.
When we fight the right way, we win. We just stopped fighting the right way after WWll. Make demands and back them up with force without regard for the well being or prosperity of your enemy. That is the only war strategy that has ever worked and yet we keep trying to do what has never been done and we needlessly sacrifice our own in the process.
Use that tax rebate that we are {given} by our law makers to buy as many guns as you can.
I agree, and I have always felt that way about those that do not love this country and support the military. I have never understood why in the world they would want to live in this country as bad as they think it is.
They've been doing most of their planning out in the open. Should make it easy to find and arrest the main conspirators... if there was a will to do so.
That's too good for 'em.
The troops don't shine their boots anymore... except special ceremonial units and such. (The Horse Cavalry demonstration troops at Ft. Hood for example).
I have 100 feet in the shed I will donate for free.
;-)
Oh, that’s true. I’ll amend my comment to say they’re not fit to lick our troops combat boots.
We need to have guards on these facilities!
There you go. :)
Although maybe they could lick the camel dung off the lugs of the soles. :)
Even better!!
Amen, CVA. Hadn’t heard BOHICA in a while.
