THROW GRANDMA UNDER THE BUS
March 19, 2008

Obama gave a nice speech, except for everything he said about race. He apparently believes we're not talking enough about race. This is like hearing Britney Spears say we're not talking enough about pop-tarts with substance-abuse problems.

By now, the country has spent more time talking about race than John Kerry has talked about Vietnam, John McCain has talked about being a POW, John Edwards has talked about his dead son, and Al Franken has talked about his USO tours.

But the "post-racial candidate" thinks we need to talk yet more about race. How much more? I had had my fill by around 1974. How long must we all marinate in the angry resentment of black people?

As an authentic post-racial American, I will not patronize blacks by pretending Obama's pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is anything other than a raving racist loon. If a white pastor had said what Rev. Wright said -- not about black people, but literally, the exact same things -- I think we'd notice that he's crazier than Ward Churchill and David Duke's love child. (Indeed, both Churchill and the Rev. Wright referred to the attacks of 9/11 as the chickens coming "home to roost.")

Imagine a white pastor saying: "Racism is the American way. Racism is how this country was founded, and how this country is still run. ... We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority. And believe it more than we believe in God."

Imagine a white pastor calling Condoleezza Rice, "Condoskeezza Rice."

Imagine a white pastor saying: "No, no, no, God damn America -- that's in the Bible for killing innocent people! God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human! God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme!"

We treat blacks like children, constantly talking about their temper tantrums right in front of them with airy phrases about black anger. I will not pat blacks on the head and say, "Isn't that cute?" As a post-racial American, I do not believe "the legacy of slavery" gives black people the right to be permanently ill-mannered.

Obama tried to justify Wright's deranged rants by explaining that "legalized discrimination" is the "reality in which Rev. Wright and other African-Americans of his generation grew up." He said that a "lack of economic opportunity among black men, and the shame and frustration that came from not being able to provide for one's family, contributed to the erosion of black families."

That may accurately describe the libretto of "Porgy and Bess," but it has no connection to reality. By Rev. Wright's own account, he was 12 years old and was attending an integrated school in Philadelphia when Brown v. Board of Education was announced, ending "separate but equal" schooling.

Meanwhile, at least since the Supreme Court's decision in University of California v. Bakke in 1978 -- and obviously long before that, or there wouldn't have been a case or controversy for the court to consider -- it has been legal for the government to discriminate against whites on the basis of their race.

Consequently, any white person 30 years old or younger has lived, since the day he was born, in an America where it is legal to discriminate against white people. In many cases it's not just legal, but mandatory, for example, in education, in hiring and in Academy Award nominations.

So for half of Rev. Wright's 66 years, discrimination against blacks was legal -- though he never experienced it personally because it existed in a part of the country where he did not live. For the second half of Wright's life, discrimination against whites was legal throughout the land.

Discrimination has become so openly accepted that -- in a speech meant to tamp down his association with a black racist -- Obama felt perfectly comfortable throwing his white grandmother under the bus. He used her as the white racist counterpart to his black racist "old uncle," Rev. Wright.

First of all, Wright is not Obama's uncle. The only reason we indulge crazy uncles is that everyone understands that people don't choose their relatives the way they choose, for example, their pastors and mentors. No one quarrels with idea that you can't be expected to publicly denounce your blood relatives.

Obama’s pastor should grow up, even though Obama has told the world that he thinks Wright is too old to change.

Well, anybody who actually finished High School in a non-government school knows this is a damned lie.

As Charles Murray went to great pains to point out in 95% of the book The Bell Curve, economic success is dependent almost entirely on education, and is independent of race.

Lack of opportunity for black men indeed!
The educated ones do quite well, from what I'm able to see, almost daily.

Of course the rap losers and pimps of all races, don't do nearly as well, as a group.

It is racist. Its founder, Ms. Sanger, was a racist and tried to eliminate the black race through abortion. No secret there.

Hey, I know a few elderly black women that don’t feel comfortable driving thru some areas where there’s rough looking black men standing on the corners...they asked me to make sure the car doors are locked, or to speed up.
And if those same rough looking men were white I would be equally as concerned for my safety. Maybe BHO’s granny thought those black mean were rough looking, maybe she had been mugged before ... rough looking male teens are scary too, white or black especially if their pants are hanging down to their knees and are listening to that music that says the “f” word over and over. SO—it’s an oversimplication to apply the sterotype that white women are afraid of black men ... that’s a cheap shot on Obama’s part. Race card and sterotype card, he’s pathetic.

(Anyway, I'll be adding you to my list of favorites to read here, for sure.)

Thank you, but please be aware that I may not stay there long. I have all the tact of a bull elephant and there is probably not a single FReeper I haven't offended--badly--at least once, and probably on a regular basis.

But honestly, am I the only person in the world to notice that the Left gives the "oppressed" (which includes not only American Blacks but Venezuelan Evangelicals and radical islamic jihadists) liberation theology wrapped in non-threatening fundamentalism while giving poor whites from trailer parks to the count of ten to become eighteenth century French intellectuals? I thought "western science" was bad?

Then he got around to the fact that his white granny who “sacrificed” for him made him “cringe” because she was a bigot. At that point I concluded that BO is the vilest politician of our time.

Good point. He is a racist period.

He doesn't "agree" with Wright's political expoundings, but "cringes" because his white Grandma is aware enough to be frightened of black strangers. just as Jesse Jackson is.

Ann is correct.

I am totally shocked how the DBM is is denial mode on how absolutly racist Obama’s speech was.

Then again the DBM is not even moved when a NOWnag calls all men rapists.

That's why timing is so important. If pastor-gate came out after Obama wins the nomination, the struggle would be between the lower class vs conservatives. McCain would be the bad guy and Obama the good guy.
now it is a struggle between the left vs hillary. Hillary is hated, Obama is exposed as a liberal and mcCain looks very good right now.

Post of the Year:

“Just imagine how for all these years, we all have been raising our kids to be decent people, who do not discriminate on the basis of skin color.

Only to learn that they have been doing the complete opposite, in church no less!”

I’m sending this to Rush. Seriously, this is an AMAZING point.

Never have so few taken so much from so many and peed it away for such little progress.

Another home run by Ann.
No one can cut through to the heart of an issue as she can.

Two observations:

1 - Obama just set race relations back at least 20 years.

2 - As Ann said, whites have had enough of the Great Society, War on Poverty and racial favoritism and discrimination.

We are waiting to hear that it is over - that blacks agree Dr. MLK's dream has come true: that henceforth blacks (and whites) will be judged on their character, not by the color of their skin.

But Obama says its not over.
He said Phase II is just getting started.
He told us that whites need to pay more attention to what blacks want - that we need to start giving more, not less.

If what we see on the videos and what Obama says about the black attitude is true it means that 40 years of government pandering to blacks and trillions of dollars spent on black oriented programs have made matters worse instead of better.
It means there is no peaceable way to resolve the race issue because whites are bumping up against the absolute limit of what they can take.

If we are going to have to forever take care of blacks like helpless little children the least the government can do is stop pretending that they are competent equals. Its time to eliminate affirmative action and racist programs that favor blacks and end the hypocrisy before it totally detroys the country.

1 - Obama just set race relations back at least 20 years.

21? 22? 23? Let's be explicit instead of demagogic! Your other points are well taken, but keep in mind that he was forced into this speech by the Klinton Propaganda machine and its allies in the media. His church and its Holy man have been known for as long as he's been going there, 20 years? Why now, that Hitlery is about to lose the nomination? Why now? Why not 6 monthes ago, one year? Whatever he might have said, he would have been attacked!

I am no Obamamaniac, but I see that the race obsession is killing this country! Obama tried to steer from it ran a race (pun unintentional) free of racialism, and was forced into it, by the Klintoons, who so easily manipulated the media and the public opinion again including the opinions here.

Read james Taranto's columns on Opinion Journal of today and yesterday, that explain (1) Why Obama put up with this preacher's rhetoric for 20 years, and (2) Where else is this rhetoric found -- according to black interviewees.

What Obama said is unimportant, as far as I am concerned. What's important and at issue here is the easy manipulation of public opinions by the Klintons who are clearly behind it. And that is very depressing.

Of course Obama set race relations back.

He succeeded in drawing attention to the race views of blacks as he intended.
But his attempt to justify the vicious black hate and resentment toward whites backfired on him.
Rather than gain white sympathy for those blacks he just stirred the wrath of whites who feel blacks should be appreciative of America and the opportunities available to them instead of being resentful and full of hate.

A good part of the damage he did is because we have the obscene situation of a black millionaire and his wife dumping on the country that offers people like them the opportunity to become educated and well off.
And they continue by lecturing working class whites on their failure to satisfy the desires of black racists.

The millionaire Obamas tell us “We [blacks] have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day."
They tell us we are a country that is "just downright mean," and "a nation of cynics, sloths, and omplacents".

Their income ranks them in the top 1% of earners in the country and they have the effrontery to tell working class people they will have to do more for blacks." Don't you believe that has set race relations back and damaged Obama's acceptance and popularity?

“Race? Everybody should have some. Don’t leave home without it.( Divide and conquer America. Its already begun.)
Obama is the Anti-christ, and he should be tossed into the nearest racial political inferno of his own making.

Obama is trolling for David Duke and the KKK, so he can make a press splash.”

What if “Damien” Obama somehow loses the nomination?

Worse yet, what if the gets the nomination but loses the presidency?

I’m thinking that it would be a good time for law enforcement to brush up on their riot-control skills.....using machine guns and grenades.

Well, her target is Wright, not Falwell.

Defending O'Bama is an exercise in self delusion; I don't believe a word he says.

Old tale:

"Two sparrows sat upon a brahch in a snowy wood watching a man with a bow and arrows walking below. As the man walked along tears ran from his eyes while he shot and killed small animals with his bow and arrow.

Said one sparrow to the other, 'oh how sad, see how the man cries.' The other sparrow said,'watch his hands, not his eyes.'
