When I was a kid I was friends with a Chinese family who ran a restaurant. They had about a dozen large (water cooler sized) bottles of “rattlesnake whiskey” in the basement at any given time, and yes you could see the rattlesnakes in the whiskey. I thought it was gross (and therefore pretty neat) when I was a kid.

In Korea you could get rat soju up by the DMZ (supposedly smuggled in from the north).
Nothing like a dinner of dog washed down with rat.

I have some fishing friends that have a different take on snakes.
Every year they set out on a fishing/camping excursion up the Apalachicola River.
In case of snake bite, they pack a case of scotch, and to keep the scotch from going to waste, they also carry a half-case of snakes.

I could understand a little rattlesnake in bourbon, now.
