How is this Pres. Bush's fault? Hamas needs to find a new obsession, like turning Palestine into a productive country.

Hamas has been stocking up on whatever weapons they could get from illegal arms dealers for 20 years now, including American weapons. We sell to our supposed allies and never take a count of it but then suddenly it winds up in Gaza.

The Bush administration gets every bit as much credit for arming the palestinians as Clinton.

Because he supplies the palestinians with arms, funding and training over objections from Israel and Congress. As we speak the administration is pressuring Israel to turn over additional responsibility for security to the palestinians, peaceful folk that they are.

And we arm the peaceful West Bank palestinians, and armed the formerly peaceful Gaza palestinians, arms which end up in the hands of Hamas.

This is no surprise. We arm and train the Palestinian police forces and don’t expect those weapons to be turned on the Israelis? Duh.

I wasn’t aware that Bush was providing them with that aid. That is disturbing and disappointing.

Dumb move on both their parts, and Israel’s for agreeing to it. In the 90s there was the excuse that peace was on the way, pie in the sky in my view. But GWB has long been making the same mistake expecting different results. IMO the time has long passed that we should be expecting the palestinians to establish a functioning government, security provided by the IDF. They could start by purging their schools and media, US and Euro financed, of the kill the Jews, kill the infidels stuff.

Bush 2 Administration was trying to force Israel to sell weaponry/ammo to Palis a couple of years ago.

We have been for years, in fact even increased aid/arms/training in the wake of the Hamas takeover of Gaza. Note that despite American training, the well armed “peaceful” palestinians of Abbas put up little of no fight, despite greatly outnumbering Hamas, 40,000 security forces and an additional 30,000 police to about 5,000 Hamas gunman. It’s not the arms and training they’re lacking, as the administration would have us believe, it’s that they’re on the same side as Hamas when it comes to making war on Israel.

SoS Powell gave the Palis around $300 million in during the first Bush2 Administration, and Bush2 budgeted another $300 million or so just a few months ago.

That doesn't include all the in-between amounts that didn't make headlines. And it excludes amounts given by the Euros, the UN, etc.

[Any wonder that Arafat died a wealthy man? He was said to have over $1 Billion stached away in Euro and other banks. He sure didn't earn it working.]
