Are you done playing, John?

I know FreeRepublic is not for profit. I understand that any changes that are done to it are "unencumbered" by any feasible plan.

But you are driving me nuts, John!

Think things through from my perspective. I don't have time to play around figuring out all the subtle differences between on Alpha release and the Next.

Do the right thing. Beta. Test. Don't break what isn't broken. Never, ever, do anything that breaks a bookmark.

I understand that playgrounds are fun, but I, for one, don't have time to coddle you whilst you are playing!

What's "unprofessional" about how it's currently being done?

Unlike the big boys, he's not censoring the criticism.

Vanity then sounds very pretentious. Can’t their be another category designation. Like “personal essay” or “personal article”? Anyone have an opinion on this?

I think "vanity" sums it up nicely. If you're bold enough to accept the moniker and still feel like posting, have at it!!

Do own the site? No?

Then sit back, have a coke and a smile and STFU already.

There’s nothing unprofessional about an iterative roll out. The fact is betaing for large websites like this never really work, the bugs are in the volume and the beta site never gets the volume. They chunked up the changes in a bunch of small waves, it’s a good way to keep things stable gives them a chance to find problems, and gives people a chance to adjust a couple changes at a time. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

...I would like to suggest a new category of post..

I agree. Based on this thread, I would create a 'Whining' category.

We have a whole suite of new features coming.

Edit?

Ignore?

Moosetrap?

I'm starting to like it since the search feature was fixed.

I hate it. Too much searching for features. My time online is limited so I have little patience and get frustrated. I know I’ll get the hang of it but but, holy cow, it’s a pain.

I think it takes alot of nerve to come into someone’s house, drink their beer, eat their food, sleep on their couch, belch and relieve yourself and then claim that the thermostat setting isn’t to your liking.

I think what I’m trying to say is, Make Your Own FR or STFU.

I am a website developer and think the changes are fine. I can appreciate the job the John is doing. Some people just HAVE TO complain, ya know?

Don't fret none over 'em, I get plenty of "noise" every time I upgrade a website too.

Speaking of Search - I’m having a hard time seeing this as a ‘Feature’ or as an improvement. What can a user do now that they couldn’t do easier and more intuitively before these ‘improvements’?

Frankly, I agree with Glenn. Change for change sake alone doesn’t cut it.

I can understand that displaying posts may draw in some new comers, but, I like what I’m used to!!

Maybe... Maybe, we’ll get an option to list it the way it is now, or just thread titles like it was. That way we don’t have to scroll too much...

Don’t get me wrong, me’s not complainin’.... Just offering another perspective...

"I would like to suggest a new category of post.."

I'd like to see a new category of thread where all posts are off topic.

Only thing I noticed today is my bookmarked page started bringing up full comments instead of brief. So, clicked brief and rebookmarked.

Bloggers & Personal, or General/Chat. \

But if you want to post thoughts about a subject that belongs in News/Activism, or in Religion, then it will not be seen by the people interested in those categories. I have never in my life looked at either of those categories you suggested.

I like the changes! A LOT! It only took an afternoon of playing around with it to get up to speed on it, and that was in between other work. Since you're a big computer expert you should be able to figure it out in 10 minutes. Btw, I tried Beta on Yahoo, and personally, I think it sux!
