The brunette at the center of Eliot Spitzer's spectacular downfall is a 22-year-old runaway from the Jersey Shore who came to the city to be a singer and ended up toppling a governor.

The stunning revelation came on a day of high drama that began with Spitzer's resignation and ended with the confession from sexy Ashley Alexandra Dupré, who is just four years older than Spitzer's eldest daughter.

"I just don't want to be thought of as a monster," said Dupré, who was born Ashley Youmans and raised in Belmar, N.J.

"Mischling" is German or Yiddish for someone of mixed heritage, especially of Jewish and gentile heritage. My brother in law is half Polish (gentile) and half German Jewish, hence a "mischling." I believe Ms. Youmans is the same.

As far as looking down on "the bridge and tunnel crowd." Well, all I can say is that you are as likely to meet a martian as you are to meet a "native New Yorker" in Manhattan, ESPECIALLY south of 42nd street. Too many Cali/Ohio/Pennsyltucky transplants with bland upper middle class accents. Same for parts of Brooklyn now. They are in no position to look down on folks, many of whom are quite wealthy (the schlepp class doesn't clog the reservation book at Il Mulino or Milos on Saturday nights), and at least were born and raised in the general vicinity.

As I recall it, the term is actually goomba which is an Italian slang term for a good friend
