The latest CDC report in a health survey of 838 teenage girls nationally indicates that one out of every four teens has a sexually transmitted disease. We are living in the age of AIDS, and dangerous and new forms of STDs and herpes, and for some reason the old media seems to imply that what a political representative does with a prostitute is his own private affair.
And yet we know from numerous studies that prostitution is one of the significant contributors to the spread of HIV/AIDS, and such studies also show that it is not only a life-threatening concern for those who participate in such activity but to the immediate family of those who have had husbands or wives who have had relationships with prostitutes. The husband who engages in such activity and becomes infected by a prostitute then later transmits HIV/AIDS or other STDs to his wife.
So, I ask seriously, shouldn’t Spitzer, Democrat from New York, be tested for HIV/AIDS and other STDs before he engages in sex with his spouse? Actually, I doubt any sensible spouse would again have sex with this person who, being so entrapped in vice, news reports have published accounts that he has spent over $80,000 dollars for sex with numerous prostitutes over the years – I would think that such a spouse would have very serious concerns for her own health.
Not only should he be tested, he should publicly pronounce the dangers of HIV/AIDS and STDs and that he is undergoing such testing to set an example for the youth of our nation.
I’m willing to bet it hasn’t happened in a long time. This woman had to know something was going on. She stayed with him for the perks.
And the kids.
If she was really concerned about her daughters she would gotten them away from this sleaze.
At least Eliott wasn’t diddling the kids. (That we know about)

It probably hasn’t been happening anyway. A philanderer who’s had the choice to be with high priced young call girls or his fifty year old wife, will probably be spoiled by the former and ignore the latter.

I agree. I'm not big on intervention of any kind - people should be free to destroy themselves if they are that freaking stupid and/or rebellious. I know that's harsh but that's what I believe. We are all responsible for our own actions. Deep down Spitzer knew what he was doing was wrong and deep down his wife knew she was stupid to stay with him. But apparently she chose greed over common sense.

To clarify, in that situation, I definately would insist on every test out there, but I don’t think it should be our business.
Infidelity of a public official should be known if he’s breaking the law in it’s course. The way a husband and a wife deal with it privately, IMHO, should remain between them.

The HIV test is an antibody test. It merely indicates the presence of antibodies to a pevious contact with a ubiquitous, harmless common retrovirus which is neither the cause of "acquired immune disease" nor is AIDs sexually transmittable.
Now, if you were inquiring re: trichomonas, hepatitis B, the clap, syphilis, chlamydia etc, yes, those could be transmitted and tested for.
