Presidential candidate Alan Keyes may be leaving the GOP. In a conference call last night, Keyes is said to have told supporters that staying in the Republican Party would be "an occasion of sin" and he's ready to bolt. Keyes ... reportedly wants no part in selecting the "type of deodorant we need to make a stinking candidate acceptable to conservatives." A Keyes supporter confirms to Radar that the former Reagan administration official "stated in the conference call that he could no longer remain in the Republican Party."
As for what's next, a third party bid seems like a good bet. Keyes hinted at the possibility on a radio program in January, and an e-mail sent out by the campaign after last night's conference call ... included a link for supporters who "want to vote for Alan as your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice on the Constitution Party presidential poll." A Keyes message board commenter who claims to have been on the conference call last night said regarding the possibility of a Constitution Party run that, "Alan asked us to pray about it." ...
Yours is one of the best statements I have read regarding Alan Keyes. He really is a brilliant man but fails to see he doesn’t live in a brilliant world but a world made up of sinners and people doing evil for their own profit. All we have now is the Republican party to try to shape up. Reagan shaped it up, we can do it again. We probably will only have McCain around, if he wins, for 4 years because of his age and temperment. If we can wade through 4 McCain years and groom some real conservatives during that time, 2012 might be a much better year for conservative Republicans.
A Keyes run would most likely hurt McCain enough to keep him from the White House.
That should make you happy.
I haven’t heard him speak lately, but in 2000 when he was running against GWB, he was very inspirational. My wife and I wrote him in in the Pennsylvania primary.
It’s amazing too how many people don’t know they can split tickets. In TX 2/3 vote straight ticket.
So true, and once again the American people are a day late and a dollar short.
Not me. I take my list and voters guide in with me:’)
It's better to win little than to lose it all.
I'm not sure that the 100 or so true blue Keyes fans will make much difference.
I just wanted to add that I think in the past the reason there hasn’t been much of a split vote is because the Republicans have usually ran conservative candidates. People knew they could but had no need to split the ticket before. After studying and choosing I have usually voted for all Republicans but I don’t push the “R” button.
Ouch! Sometimes the truth hurts.
If he wants to run...more power to him. The more choices the better. If the Republicans are selling a good product they shouldn’t fear competition.IMO.
Taking bets on who will win more votes: Nader or Keyes.
I think Alan shows incredible restraint, if I knew a tenth of what he knows I would be unable to contain my anger long enough to articulate my own name, let alone fight on as he does in the face of impossible odds. With God all things are possible. Go Alan

When is the dead-line to register? I really thought Al would throw his hat in too.
The GOP in (Daleys Soviet Republic of) Illinois was the running joke that led the National GOP into the oblivion that it is today long before Alan Keyes showed up.
If I listened to everyone who complained and everyone who was complained about there wouldn't be any candidate!
“Taking bets on who will win more votes: Nader or Keyes.”
If Clinton wins the nomination : Nader
If Obama wins the nomination : Nader but I may be closer
Actually, a Keyes third party candidacy would help GOP candidates down-ticket. Quite frankly, the Values Voter vote which made up 22% of the electorate in 2004, and a lot of people who won’t come out and vote if there’s no Presidential Candidate will come out and vote for Keyes. Alan Keyes could at least save a few Congressmen, maybe a Senator. I think McCain loses regardless.
