Presidential candidate Alan Keyes may be leaving the GOP. In a conference call last night, Keyes is said to have told supporters that staying in the Republican Party would be "an occasion of sin" and he's ready to bolt. Keyes ... reportedly wants no part in selecting the "type of deodorant we need to make a stinking candidate acceptable to conservatives." A Keyes supporter confirms to Radar that the former Reagan administration official "stated in the conference call that he could no longer remain in the Republican Party."
As for what's next, a third party bid seems like a good bet. Keyes hinted at the possibility on a radio program in January, and an e-mail sent out by the campaign after last night's conference call ... included a link for supporters who "want to vote for Alan as your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice on the Constitution Party presidential poll." A Keyes message board commenter who claims to have been on the conference call last night said regarding the possibility of a Constitution Party run that, "Alan asked us to pray about it." ...
Your first sentence is an excellent observation.
Why would any conservative run in Illinois? They’d have as good a chance in Mass. or Vt.
That’s not necessarily true. But you need a conservative who almost-entirely captures the rural vote. Your typical conservative rural voter in Illinois took one look at Keyes and asked wtf?
If he runs third party conservative, I will vote for him rather than waste my vote on the liberal lite McCain and my conscience will not be violated when McCain, if he is elected by the rinos and liberals, begins his greenie programs and illegal immigrant legislations that will continue to destroy us all.
If he does, he gets my vote. Close the borders.
He must really need the money...
Funny this comes out now... I just got my Constitution Party membership card yesterday.
[Yeah, that’ll energize the conservatives Alan. Sure.]
You may be right, as a conservative I will vote for a conservative.
Every election we are told to wait one more election until we are in a better position. How much better do things have to be to get change? We, the voters gave the Republican Party all three and they gave the power away. I’ll be voting for conservatives across the board, regardless of party.. Congress thru presidental. A 3fer.
[Your comments credit him with more than he deserves. Theres a screw loose somewhere in the Alan Keyes picture.]
There are many screws loose in the marxist socialist democrat left and rino right G.O.P..
It's reassuring that other conservatives are "dense", but and you are not. Why would you be part of a movement that you have such derision for the members of? It's always good to have at least one intelligent person in your movement. Whatever would we do without you?
This conservative is not staying home. I'll be voting for conservatives wherever they appear on the ballot. Which means I will make no mark on the presidential part of the ballot.
Brace yourselves, Republicans: presidential candidate Alan Keyes may be leaving the GOP. In a conference call with supporters last night, Keyes is said to have told supporters that staying in the Republican Party would be "an occasion of sin" and is ready to bolt. Keyes, it seems, really dislikes John McCain (and, as we recall from an event in Iowa, everyone else running for president) and reportedly wants no part in selecting the "type of deodorant we need to make a stinking candidate acceptable to conservatives." A Keyes supporter on the last night's call confirms to Radar that the former Reagan administration official "stated in the conference call that he could no longer remain in the Republican Party."
As for what's next, a third party bid seems like a good bet. Keyes hinted at the possibility on a radio program in January, and an e-mail sent out by the campaign after last night's conference call (subject header: "Constitution Party poll") includes a link for supporters who "want to vote for Alan as your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice on the Constitution Party presidential poll." A Keyes message board commenter who claims to have been on the conference call last night said regarding the possibility of a Constitution Party run that, "Alan asked us to pray about it. That's what he is doing as he is considering these things. He did not say he's definately [sic] going to do it, but from the tone of things I am going to say it's very likely." Radar has thrown its prayer pants on and awaits a response to phone and e-mail inquiries to the Keyes campaign.
If a tree falls in the forest and no-one hears it does it make a sound (well of course it does but you get my point)?
And for all those McCain naysayers - this election isn’t about McCain v Obamilary it is about who gets to put four new Justices on the USSC.
Who do you want doing that McCain or Obamiliary?
Will Alan Keyes repay his campaign debts?
How can anybody support someone that doesn't believe in the bill of rights, or the souvernty of our borders, just because of the “R” is beyond me. He voted against Bush's tax cuts, McCain-Feingold gagged the American people while empowering the leftist media, supports the Greens on the global warming hoax, wants rights for terrorists while robbing ours, called our nation bigots for thwarting the amnesty bill. No way am I going to help put him in office and watch him and the media totally destroy any conservative movement! Pathetically it would be better if Hillary or Obama won.
“Discouraged conservatives are too dense to understand that down-ballot candidates will suffer when they stay home.
I disagree with your characterization of “too dense.” If the GOP chooses to run a non-conservative at the top of it’s ticket, it should accept responsibility for the consequences of that action. Not whine about how conservatives are “too dense” to show up and vote for their candidates.
If anything, having a strong third party candidate helps conservatives who are running downticket as Republicans. Those conservatives who would otherwise be “too dense” to show up would likely split their vote, thus helping them.
I think his campaign is the only one with more debt than cash on hand. Ron Paul’s is the only one with zero debt (of course).
When I look at Alan Keyes’ past, it’s hard to reconcile with the conservative rhetoric he uses. I used to support him strongly, and have voted for him, but he’s lost my support over time.
The Const. Party is no better than what the far left anti war liberals are advocating.
Don't be a jerk. We all know he doesn't have a chance to win, so what exactly are you (and others) trying to accomplish by smearing this man? Perhaps you really need to reevaluate your ideology if you think the Constitution Party and Alan Keyes are no better than far left liberals.
A tree falling in the forest....
