Here's the key graph:

One employee, standing at the second floor railing, asked McCain his position on illegal immigration.

McCain responded with a joke. "Yes," McCain said, "illegal immigration. This meeting is adjourned."

He went on to say...

"It is an emotional issue with America," McCain continued. "It is a national security issue with America and it is also a Judeo-Christian issue with America."

He said the first duty is to secure the nation's borders and that only once that was done to the satisfaction of border state governors would he work to create a temporary worker program.

"I believe we need temporary workers," he said. "I believe I can back that up with statistics."

There he goes again. Don't be fooled. We must derail Mccain

I think it was a very reasonable position to take.

I suppose McCain missed today’s big decline in employment. I suppose that is due, as he even admitted, economics is his weak point. One question I would ask McCain is where is in the Western world has there been a “guest worker” program that has not resulted in permament stayers?

Nothin’ wrong with temporary workers...as long as you make sure they go home...AND as long as they NEVER BECOME RESIDENTS/CITIZENS!

Derail McCain, and replace him with whom and derail him how?

With regard to “temporary workers”, the devil is in the details. I can support certain temporary worker programs, depending on the conditions. I don’t support amnesty for illegals. I do support border security. I hated the Senate bill. I don’t trust McCain to “do the right thing”. I DO TRUST billary and obama to do the WRONG thing—every single time.

“I believe we need temporary workers,” he said. “I believe I can back that up with statistics.”

Yes. From slave plantations.

Guest worker = Rent-a-slave

But after all, McCain and Bush think alike on this issue and we were able to torpedo McCain-Kennedy anyway.

Not that I trust him after his involvement with the late amnesty bill, but he at least used the right words by saying we need a temporary worker program.

We do need one, a TEMPORARY WORKER program that can be enforced, instead of the status quo of people coming here for life.

He’s just taking the issue away from the Democrats. After he’s elected he’ll become conservative. No wait; in his second term he’ll become a conservative.

Illegal immigration a Judeo-Christian issue?

He has gone completely Looney-Tunes.

Will you really trust this man with nuclear weapons?

He said "temporary workers" - that doesn't necessarily equate to amnesty. I think he was badly burned with his amnesty proposal and he won't be trying it again. But if you have doubts, remember this is why we need more real conservatives in Congress as well as a Republican president.

Nope. That was the correct response.
I don’t know if we can believe him, but, once the border is secure, the rest can be negotiated - guest workers, amnesties, etc.
We just have to negotiate REAL HARD.

He should go to jail for supporting amnesty. He will be sworn to uphold the laws and the Constution if he is elected. You’ve been warned he will be lying.

"I believe we need temporary workers," he said. "I believe I can back that up with statistics."

How about deporting a million gang bangers, welfare cheats and reconquistadoras and we'll give you a million temporary worker visas, or maybe even more. That's negotiation and compromise.

What McCain co-sponsored last year was surrender-- everybody stays and Americans and legal immigrants have to pay for it.
