Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.
There are a couple of posters over there, pro McCain people, who are just as nasty as some of the people on this thread, only in defense of McCain. They are not banned on FreeRepublic, they still post here.
Look Eva, the GOP knew when they started pushing people like McCain or Rudy that there was going to be trouble with conservatives. They are taking that chance.
Do not be angry. Look at it like you may gain some and you may lose some. It was a chance the GOP was taking. These people need to quit pushing too hard without any concessions from McCain. Take a deeep breath, let time play out and understand the outrage that a conservative is feeling right now.
I don’t think that is hard to understand. I myself do not flame those that will vote for McCain. I wish they wouldn’t flame me for opposing him. I have a kid in the military who does not like McCain. That makes one of the arguments absurd to me.
I don’t care who you support, but at the same time, conservatives who are not happy deserve the time to vent. After all, Mccain is NOT a conservative prize.
I’d consider this amnesty, thank you for asking,if we consider banning all the Limbomaniacs!

That's funny, I remember a lot of nastiness towards many freepers from Howlin long before the Rudy threads. I guess she is not banned any longer- not sure why. Howlin had a split personality; she would make great posts and then gang up with buddies to attack someone that didn't agree with her like a child would do. Peach began to do the very same thing over time. I don't miss either one of them, though both did make great posts they were also school yard bullies.
I don’t think that venting should include calling other posters stupid, like that Dixiechick2000 did.
I guess I just didn’t read the right threads. I hate flame wars. I prefer threads like the pool poopy thread of a few years back, or thread with some more substance than just calling people names.

The only reason I posted to you in the first place is that you were being so nasty to others.
I think you would agree that the abuse goes both ways. Although there are times I would respond to each and every one of those, I don’t.
It s time for most of us to accept the fact that all of us are not going to agree on election 2008. Some will move left with the GOP, and some won’t.
That is a fact that people have to realize.
FR is a very conservative site. There are others that are not. If people can’t handle that that, they need to move elsewhere where they find people that totally agree with them. Freedom is great. We don’t have to subject ourselves to those who disagree.

What I don’t understand is why you posted this thread instead of approaching Jim Robinson in private by email. It seems to me this just stirred the pot, and caused many things best left buried to be dug up. If your purpose was to see which way the wind was blowing in regards to those you miss, I guess I can understand that- but none of us have the power to unban anyone so I really don’t see the point. I really think some of those you miss don’t even want to post here as evidenced by the fact that many who are not banned don’t post any way.
I think if one is banned from this site the best thing to do is to contact the site owner and plead one’s case directly to the boss, and it works best after a cooling off period of time has passed. To me it seems rather silly to plead the case of others on an open thread- especially if they don’t really want to post here anyway. It shouldn’t be a popularity contest to post here, and as far as I know it isn’t.
