Obama: Sermon on the Mount supports gay civil unions (Obama derides the Bible)

NELSONVILLE, Ohio (BP)--Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama defended his belief in same-sex civil unions March 2 by referencing Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and then implicitly criticizing those who view Romans as a binding teaching on homosexuality.

Obama made the comments during a question-and-answer session with voters in Nelsonville, Ohio. A local pastor asked Obama how he plans to win the votes of evangelical voters when they disagree with him on moral issues.

"I believe in civil unions that allow a same-sex couple to visit each other in a hospital or transfer property to each other," he said, referring to unions that grant all the legal benefits of marriage, minus the name. "I don't think it should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state. If people find that controversial, then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans. That's my view. But we can have a respectful disagreement on that."

The Sermon on the Mount is found in Matthew 5-7, the passage in Romans is found in chapter 1, verses 26-32.

But Obama's quote may open him up to further criticism from evangelicals, because it's a common evangelical belief that all of Scripture is inspired by God and equally authoritative -- that is, the words of Jesus in Matthew are just as inspired as the words of Paul in Romans. Although it is often argued by homosexual activists that Jesus said nothing about same-sex relationships, He in fact defined marriage as between one man and one woman in such passages as Mark 10:6-9.

When we are on vacation we ALWAYS find a Catholic church to attend Mass on Sunday. And the only time we miss church is if we are sick. When Obama said he went to church most of the time it makes you wonder how much going to church is important to him. And after hearing that audio of his preacher’s blasting America only makes me think less of Obama. If a Catholic priest said those things I would walk out of church and find another parish. Obama needs to remind himself of the scripture Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those that call evil good and good evil. That scripture describes todays cultural.

With his left hand firmly on the Quran....

I heard his wife speak yesterday in Tyler, TX. She made a point to say in her closing remarks, "and he will be standing in front of the White House with his hand on the Bible and taking the oath of office in November." I thought it sounded like a deliberate statement to conter the Islamic angle.

If Conservatives stay home it will be...”I Barak Hussein Obama, do solemly swear”......Think about it folks....

That is exactly correct.

And the more I see him the more frightened I become.
If I had to choose between O'Bama and Hillary, as much as I detest her, she would be my choice.

O'Bama is totally naive , lacking any foreign policy experience.
IMHO foreign affairs these next few years are going to be more critical than any since WWII as we may very well be looking at WWIII.

The thought of a boob ie, O'Bama being in charge is inconceivable.

Jude 7 “...as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”

I guess this passage is “obscure” also to Obama. Sin is never legitimized in scripture.

November? Cant wait until January?

Yes, Obama is doing the Huckster thing, playing up the religion angle precisely to get the “Christian” label put on him. Never mind that his “christian” faith is hijacked socialist cultural marxism, prefaced with a “Jesus said” in front of it. No, Barack, Jesus did *not* say, imply, or justify any of the cutlural degradation that you advocate.
