Saw that last night. Had to be George Bush’s fault all the way.

The pilot earned his entire annual salary in those 45 seconds.

The pilot was really hosed this up. Any pilot watching the video will tell you that God spared this flight.

I’m wondering why the pilot even attempted landing when the plane was being blown sideways way up in the air.
To: Teacher317
The pilot is to blame for needing to earn his salary in 45 seconds. It was a sloppy set up and almost became a disaster recovery.

I went through a situation like that on an Air Mexicano flight. Half the crew was drinking in the back of the plane. We headed back up above the storm and circled for what seemed like forever. When we eventually landed, all the airport lights were out and my borrowed luggage was smashed to smithereens. But I’m here to talk about it.

My God, this was close!
I had one “landing” similar to that in NY back in the early 70’s. The pilot put the craft down hard and braked like a wall was in front of us. When he eased to a stop the passengers applauded. We all hit the first bar we saw and consumed mass quantities.

I can only wonder what made the pilot think he could land in that kind of crosswind.

I don’t understand—did he first touch down, then take off again? What happened after that?

It looked like a student pilot on their first crosswind training flight

There are people on that flight that might not ever be able to remove the flotation device seat bottom they were sitting on. Talk about some extreme pucker factor.

Yeah, by about 6 inches off the port wing tip.

You guys don’t understand, it’s not up to the pilot, the tower makes the call, this pilot does deserve a medal. I had a landing like this once (we landed) and people on the plane were crying, it’s very scary but in the end the tower makes the call, and they often make very bad calls.
