HUCKABEE TOURS BORDER
firstread msnbc ^ | 3-1-2008 | Matthew Berger

Huckabee -- joined by Rep. Duncan Hunter, Jim Gilchrist, founder and president of the Minutemen Project and Chuck Norris – first was briefed at the Laredo office of Customs and Border Protection. He viewed the command center, where operators scan mounted video cameras, looking for Mexicans seeking to cross the border. He also saw a wide array of weapons and equipment the patrolmen use, including hovercraft.

...

Huckabee continued to stress the need for increased border protection and expressed support for current plans to prosecute all illegal border crossers. He also backed civilian border-protection groups, saying they were necessary because of deficient federal resources for protecting the border.

I'm not sure what the Huckabee haters hope to accomplish at this point by continuing to trash Huckabee, unless they're hoping to make it easier for McCain to shore up the nomination.

Hmmm. One wonders what kind of "true conservative" would want that.

And his polling numbers are rising phenomenally. Last week, only 90% of poll respondents daid “Mike Who?” hr>

Well I dont think they are flocking to his side in large enough numbers to win in either OH or Tx.......

Huckabee is the only candidate paying any attention whatsoever to the border issues. I don't particularly care that he came to the party late or flip-flopped or whatever you want to called it as far as the border is concerned. He has said no amnesty and has signed the Sessions pledge, which is just what the conservatives have been asking for all along.

What is the point of getting others to see your point of view if you are going to trash them when they come over to your side?

>> Check out his immigration record as it is, not as he says it will be. <<

Considering EVERY "major" Republican candidate (including Fred Thompson who was worshipped as a deity on this board) has an past "immigration record" that doesn't match their rhetoric, what's your point?

The race is down to Huckabee and McCain now. That's who Texas voters will be choosing from. Do you think McCain's record on this issue is "better" than Huck? Hint: Huck OPPOSED the Senate amnesty bill at the time it was proposed.

I prefer to look at a person’s history over what they say they’re going to do.

So, you won’t be voting for McCain either?

Any tv news yet showing the march today? Did they have a large crowd. Was any of Hillary’s campaign there? I think she, Bill and Chelsea are all over Texas today...

Not familiar with that analogy. But all too familiar with the Huckabee nonsense. He is not a viable candidate and, if voter madness were to choose him, he would be slaughtered in a general election!

That tour is a great idea. It will remind Texas voters that Huckabee signed a No Amnesty Pledge and that McCain supported amnesty.

McCain did more than support amnesty.

He wrote it, put his name on it, pushed it, lied (and lies) about it, and screamed profanities against patriots opposed to his treason.

Any posts about Huckabee are virtually worthless.

My suggestion is that when he was at the border Huckabee just keep walking south and not come back.

I hope Mike stays in the race, if for no other reason than to be a pain in McCain's side. Of all the candidates, only Mike, Rudy & Mitt have had any real governing experience, and even Rudy would have been preferable to McCain.

I like Mike and find the comments that he is not a viable candidate unconvincing, especially since he is the only one left out of all the other contenders. What is remarkable, is that he has been able to do this on such a small amount of money.

This election cycle has certainly been full of surprises. Even six months ago I laughed at the idea that Obama or McCain could even have a ghost of a chance; it definitely does seem to be the year of the underdog. But unless Huckabee can pull out a win in Ohio or Texas, I think his run for president this year is all but over. Hopefully he will get started on building a base for 2012. I know that a lot of FReepers don't like the guy, but I see a lot more to like than dislike about him and feel that he would make an outstanding president.

So we can trust Hunter to run the nation, but not to know who would make a good pick if he loses.

Point taken. Awful state of affairs when GOP Members have to decide who is the least RINO-like!
