McCain Slams Swiftboat Vets

Wed, Feb 27, 2008 at 1:19:32 pm PST

Has anyone ever really shown that the allegations made by the Swift Boat Veterans against John F. Kerry were false? If someone has refuted the charges conclusively, I’ve never seen it—which makes John McCain’s continuing antipathy toward the Swiftboaters inexplicable: McCain Scrambles to Control Backers.

Speaking to reporters aboard his campaign tour bus late Tuesday, McCain acknowledged that conservative independent groups pursuing a similar line to Cunningham’s could be impossible to control.

“I think you have to worry about that, particularly the 527s,” McCain said, referring to the independent advocacy groups that are not subject to contributor limits.

“We’re aware of many of the things that 527s have done ... where unlimited amounts of money can pour into negative campaigns such as we saw against John Kerry and his combat record, as we saw against (former Georgia Sen.) Max Cleland ... they’re really very not accountable to anyone. At least I have to say ‘I’m John McCain and I approve this message.’”

And no, I’m not saying ‘down with McCain’ here. But in this case, I think he’s scoring some cheap political points at the expense of people who don’t deserve the bad rap.

"Hypersensitivity to perceived “insults” is the path to liberalism."

NEWS FLASH: ELECTING RINO McCAIN IS THE PATH TO LIBERALISM!

Look at the man's past history and all the stupid liberal things he's backed - amnesty, eliminating waterboarding, closing gitmo, lawyers for enemy combatants, the gang of 14, etc... the list goes on and on.

GET A CLUE!

John McCain continues to act like he has had half his brain removed from his head.

Pathetic is my best description of him.

I spent 13 months in Vietnam in a rifle company. When I returned to civilian life I just went through the motions for years, totally disillusioned until Ronald Reagan began to set things right again.

I posted this last week on another thread:

The postmodern mass media and the Democrats have so pervasively demonized American involvement in Vietnam that it is very difficult to find objective truth. The era is obscured in emotion, propaganda and myth, even to those of us who lived it.

I can only look at what has been the real global legacy of the Vietnam War and it is mostly positive.

The larger, less stated U.S. strategy in Vietnam was to force the Soviets and Chinese to invest material resources onto a battleground chosen by the U.S. and in one of the less developed nations in the region. Vietnam was a holding action against the “domino theory” consequences of the collapse of pro-Western governments in RVN, Laos and Cambodia.

At the time, communist insurgencies or infiltration were underway in Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. News of these conflicts was overshadowed by events in Vietnam. The U.S, effort between 1959 and 1975 channelized Soviet, Eastern Bloc and Chinese foreign aid into the Indochina arena for more than a decade. (The Chinese were the lesser players in Vietnam because there was old animosity between China and Vietnam and the Chinese were still recovering from their losses in the Korean War which Mao told Nixon in 1972 was devastating and set the PRC back by 10 years.)

The war diluted the strength of Marxist/Maoist insurgencies in the rest of non-communist Asia while these states developed political and military strength.

Though the human, monetary and political consequences of Vietnam to the U.S. were great, the cost to the Soviets was not cheap. They were never able to adequately exploit their “victory” because a “reunited” Vietnam, like Cuba, was an expensive basket case that cost more than it was worth.

The Soviet economic system could only grow in a crude way by expansionism. It’s greatest gain was in World War II when it was able to occupy and seize the gold, industrial and mineral wealth of Eastern Europe. The Soviets could only afford so many clients like Vietnam, Nicaragua and Afghanistan. Vietnam was one nail in the coffin lid of the USSR.

The Americans who served, fought, died, and were maimed in Vietnam saved the lives and freedom of hundreds of millions. They were the most selfless individuals of the most selfish generation.

McCain addresses yet another conservative group:

"Straight talk for me but not for thee.

"For you my contempt and contumely"

John McCain

Excellent and well-written recap of, as you say, "an era obscured in emotion, propaganda and myth."

Thank you for your service, brother. I have nothing but admiration for those who served in-country.

McCain is like other moderate Republicans who are kinder and friendlier with their enemies than they are with the true base. McCain isn’t stupid. It’s just that he is philosophically closer to the Democrats.

He might as well name Feingold as his VP. They would have very high name recognition.

“Why is McCain sliming veterans who came forward and told the truth about a man...”

I think that the answer is simple. If there are men who can dispute McCain’s alleged heroics as a POW, he wants to be able to preemptively discredit them.

I’m willing to give him a pass on whatever happened in that POW camp. Everything after is fair game though.

I’ve got a feeling mcloon will be more than happy to rubber stamp a return of the fairness doctrine.

If mcloon-foolsgold taught us anything, mcloon is openly antagonistic to the principles of free speech.

Caveat Emptor!

he is upset about someone telling the truth on the haircut?

it amazes me that the swiftboat vets are accused of negative campaigning. how is it negative to tell the truth? Kerry started that with the wintervet BS in the 70’s....if you want to compain about negative advertisement...talk to J kerry...

I agree somewhat.

I don’t know that he did anything dishonorable while in captivity, but there sure has been a lot of animosity towards him from his fellow vets that I really wonder. You know, smoke. . . fire . . .

Since he has been in the Senate, his actions and votes have been absolutely despicable. I cut him no slack whatsoever and I have to wonder if he really is the Manchurian Candidate.

Hypersensitivity to perceived “insults” is the path to liberalism.

However recognizing an enemy who's not even pretending to be a friend is simply common sense.

Our primaries were hijacked. McCain was nominated by people who either acted on behalf of the democrats or were so removed from politics they didn't recognize what a walking, talking disaster the man is and will be come November.

Too bad, it was the WORKING half.

Must be a requirement to run for public office, especially on the federal level....
