>>If the editors at the NYT could read, they would see he is eligible.

I think you overlooking a big factor.

You are quoting that old document called the Constitution. <<

We are also seeing this through the Drudge lens. Sometimes he gets scoops. Sometimes he correctly reports other’s coming scoops.

But sometimes he misreports or exaggerates or simply gets wrong information and posts it without checking.

Even a NYT reporter is looking at this story - before it actually gets published his editor will probably notice that MCain’s father was an American officer (and would become an admiral) and that together with being born on an American base on what was an American territory makes this a at best pointless...

And at worst it could really embarrass the heck out of the NYT.

Although it did occur to me the last fake attack on McCain by the Times was actually intended to help McCain. A smear like this would create more pro-McCain backlash.

Works for me.

There's no Republican candidate now anyhow.

We still have time to get one though.

Don’t most people come from the canal zone? Except for C-sections...

Yes, from what my parents advised me, I could have chosen Canadian or American citizenship, but the thought/idea never entered my mind to even consider another citizenship besides being an American. I would never, ever dream of wanting another citizenship besides the one I have...one that I thank God so dearly for.

Ah, back to the real world, which seems more unreal everyday. Stories like this make me just shake my head.

Someone should have informed him he wasn’t a citizen when he was at the Hanoi Hilton.

factmart, the NYT will love your comment. And, they’ll continue writing pieces hoping that other “conservatives” here read it and tell other “conservatives”.

Now tell me, who in this race is willing to fight the jihadists?

Heck, this attack was used on Chester Alan Arthur in the 1880s— the claim was that he was born in Canada, rather than Vermont.

I thought that if one or both parents was American, the child was also American.

I have a brother that was born in Japan when my Dad was in the military. Since my dad and mom were US citizens, my brother is too, as afforded by our constitution. There has never been a question about that, period. This is B.S.

Breaking News - the NY Times stock continues to decline with its readership.

Snort! My son spent an inordinate amount of time there in the sunny-side up position. I was NOT pleased. You bad you!

The Constitution refers to "natural born citizen" not "native born citizen" as some history texts report it.

I don't understand the difference. Anyway the Panama Canal Zone was U.S. jurisdiction at the time. I went to college with a kid who was born on a U.S. Army installation in Germany. Isn't that considered the same as being born on American soil?

Who knows if the MSM will ever give the Obamessiah heat? He’s their “messiah”, their “savior”.

Disqualify him and put Fred Thompson in his place.

Fred was my guy, or so I thought. A campaign is a preview of the administration. He would be a terrible president.

OK, I'll readily admit Obama would be worse.
