(CNN) — Likely GOP nominee John McCain said Sunday that beating an energized Democratic party in a fall election fight would be “an uphill battle all the way.”
The Arizona senator told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week that he “can out-campaign them, and I can out-debate them, and I can out-perform them” but conceded that he had his work cut out for him in the months ahead.
“…We've got to reunite the party, and we've got to re-energize the party. And I'm prepared to do that. We've got plenty of time. But I won't waste a day,” said McCain.
The Arizona senator, who is close to capturing the number of delegates required to claim the Republican nomination, has struggled to win over much of the GOP’s conservative base. But party leaders have begun to rally to his side: Monday, he is scheduled to receive the endorsement of former President George H.W. Bush.

The hissy-fit types think Bush is too liberal, but that only shows how delusional they are about the state of the country right now. Less than 20% of the electorate would support candidates they consider the minimal acceptables, which is why their preferred standard bearers couldn't even get into double digits in Republican primaries. No one they wouldn't denounce as a traitor stands a ghost of a chance in the general election. Heck, last I argued with them, they were telling me Bush was.
The only issue remaining before the house is whether McCain or Obama would be better for the country. If you put your partisan-wing hissyfit preferences over that question, then you are simply too irresponsible for me or the country to give a darn what you think about anything. No one should listen to you or give you the time of day.
What is better for the country, of the practical courses open to it, is the only responsible question. Your power is not important. Your wishes are not important. The country and its well being are important. The Dems are contemptable right now precisely because they have forgotten this, it is what we rightly denounce as their hyperpartisan treason. It isn't any more acceptable when you do it.
Did you watch the last debate? He did not even look normal as questions confused him and he smiled and talked to himself. It is obomething is not right with him.
This is easy-First McCain voted not to extend tax cuts, Secondly, he sponsored McCain-Feingold, He is in favor of embryonic cell research, he was a member of the gang of 14 that allowed Dems to obstruct some of the best judicial nominees in my memory, he has not supported the right to bear arms, we should not forget McCain’s did not support drilling in Anwar, also, McCain-Kennedy would have legalized the illegal criminal element- as well as giving illegals amnesty and Robert Novak has said that McCain did in fact say that he would not pick judges like Alito-judges who wear their conservatism on their sleeve don’t you know. There is plenty more where this came from.
All add up to a voting record that is not much different than Hillary Clinton’s. The only reason one might vote for him is the war, but I heard McCain with my own ears say he envisions moving soldiers to the borders and allowing Iraqis to work on the insurgency which will take 100 years. This is not my idea of prosecuting a war effectively.
You are completely correct. McCain has torn the Republican Party apart and he can not unite this party. It is not possible.
I saw McCain on television talking about how difficult the war is the economy etc. All the while, he has a big fake grin on his face-creepy.
They didnt choose our candidate. The people did !

The people did not choose the candidate. The primaries were staged in order to make sure a ‘moderate’ became the nominee. It was supposed to be Guliani. However, McCain won by attracting moderate Repubs,Dems and indep: in liberal states that will be in the Dem column come November. I never had a choice; it was over before my state voted. well, GOP I hope you are happy with your choice...allowing states that can not be counted on in November to choose the Republican candidate is folly. McCain will be lucky to carry Arizona.
In a number of states it was the Democrats and Independents who crossed over to vote for McCain - the only one of the candidates for whom I could never vote. The more I see of him, the more he reminds me of the Manchurian Candidate.
As soon as the McCain camp went after Michelle's stupid statement, we laughed and wondered how soon before McCain would comment about being proud. Not long at all before Cindy had a statement memorized.

It shows that he’s not overconfident and isn’t lying to people. I believe this is going to be a tought, yet very winnable, campaign.
Maybe he skipped many of the meetings? Or his mind wandered? This was a strange admission for him to make.
I am quite aware of how charismatic Obama is. I've also seen his Achille's heel. Most of Ameria will as well, soon enough. You see, there is a difference between you and I: I believe we can win, and want to fight every step of the way to do so. You, it appears, have already lost. Why bother posting?

The Man had a total of 103 townhall meetings there.He had a lot of question and answer sessions with his audience. He worked hard to get where he is today.
His was one of the most fantastic comebacks ever. And he worked for it !
Truman was Vice President for 3 months before he took over.
