TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN
Don Feder's Cold Steel Caucus ^ | 02/14/2008 | Don Feder

Posted on 02/16/2008 1:49:07 PM PST by Witch-king of Angmar

I just got back from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., where conservatives began lining up behind a man who’s been sticking it to us for years. By a process of self-hypnosis, many have managed to convince themselves that McCain is actually one of us.

Not for nothing did Benjamin Disraeli call conservatives the stupid party.

What part of John McCain do we not get? McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Lieberman, McCain-Edwards -- among other socialist, anti-speech, open-borders, enviro-Marxist measures he’s co-sponsored with the hardcore left of the Democratic Party over the years.

If Il Duce had served with him in the United States Senate, there would be McCain-Mussolini.

Exactly, because a Republican, (even John McCain) will destroy it less than a Democrat and there may be hope of restoring it.

I hope you're not being serious. The Constitution is too important to be trifled with by traitors of either party.

Conservatives--don't settle for a fascist.

What all of you McCain supporters should realize is that it doesn’t matter whether you have justified, in your own mind, voting for McCain. The fact is that too many conservative voters have had enough of voting for the lesser of two evils and will not vote McCain. McCain will lose. Continuing to support him guarantees a Hillary or Obama win. It guarantees it. The only possible way to keep those two out of office, is for you to forget McCain and work to support whomever is left that conservatives will vote for. It is that simple.

So you admit you don't know what you were voting for, and that you, in fact voted for "amnesty" as you're now accusing McCain of supporting. Thank you.

In 2004, the GOP platform included the following:

A growing economy requires a growing number of workers, and President Bush has proposed a new temporary worker program that applies when no Americans can be found to fill the jobs. This new program would allow workers who currently hold jobs to come out of the shadows and to participate legally in America's economy. It would allow men and women who enter the program to apply for citizenship in the same manner as those who apply from outside the United States.

Note the BOLD part. The 2004 GOP platform called for a plan that allows illegal immigrants to convert to a legal means of working here. Which is what the President's immigration plan (which McCain supported) called for.

You might want to check the 2000 platform, too because it also calls for means to allow families to stay together (anchor babies), and calls for a long-term plan to increase economic growth of Central and South America as well as the Caribbean.

So I guess you're as much as an "open borders nut" as John McCain, considering you've voted - willingly and openly - for the party espousing such "amnesty".

Yes Senator McCain voted to CONFIRM both Alito and Roberts. Funny, if he’s so opposed to conservative justices why did he vote for them?

And war on terror? Because McCain SUPPORTED the 2000 and 2004 GOP platforms AND the GOP President in their immigration policy? So I guess the entire GOP is soft on terror...

Two strikes, want to go for 3?

Two reasons to vote FOR McCain - 1) President Clinton and 2) President Obama.

I have been given the choice of suicide by gun, suicide by 30-story fall, or suicide by deadly poison.

Wheeeeeee.

He’s clearly *evolving*. Go here:
http://www.acuratings.org/2006all.htm

You will see that although his lifetime rating is 82.3 (not 85 but close) his 2005 was 80 and 2006 65. This is not a hopeful trend. I will grant you that Clinton and Obama are far worse, however, McCain seems to be heading that direction.

Yes, like your refusing to support the GOP nominee is the best way to make sure the Democrats DON'T win in November...

Somehow I fail to see your logic.

I've asked for it dozens of times, and every one of you "I HATE MCCAIN!" folks dodge the question...

WHAT IS YOUR ALTERNATIVE TO VOTING FOR JOHN MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER THAT IS BETTER THAN HAVING THE DEMOCRATS WIN?

I see a lot of claims to never vote for McCain, but never an alternative put forth. So give me your alternative other than just sitting it out and handing the election to the Democrats.

One question I have for you is, if Reagan were the Presidential nominee of the Republican Party and Hillary or Obama was the Democratic nominee, would you be trashing Reagan and vowing to either not vote or vote for the Democrat?

Before you answer my question, read the following:

1. In the summer of 1967, during Reagan’s first year as governor, and contrary to his campaign promises, Reagan signed off on a record tax increase for the state of California — an 18 percent, roughly $1-billion hike.

According to Reagan biographer Lou Cannon, the increase included boosting sales taxes from three to five cents on the dollar; raising the maximum income tax from 7 to 10 percent; and increases in bank, corporation, inheritance, liquor and cigarette taxes.

A little context is in order. In his autobiography, An American Life, Reagan said he inherited a $200-million deficit from his predecessor, Pat Brown. Reagan ordered a hiring freeze and other spending cuts.

But Reagan was a Republican governor in a state where the legislature was controlled by the Democrats, and he wasn’t able to muster support for additional cuts. So, he ended up reluctantly signing off on the tax increases.

2. In 1982, President Reagan sent U.S. Marines as a peace-keeping force to Beirut after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. The Marines were tasked with being policemen during the Lebanese Civil War. In April of 1983, a bomb-laden truck was driven into the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, killing 17 Americans. In the early morning hours of October 23, 1983 the Marine barracks in Beirut was also attacked by a truck bomb, killing 231 Marines. The Iranian-backed Hezbollah was found to be behind both bombings Reagan vowed to meet all Islamic terrorism with "swift and effective retribution" and promised to stay on in Lebanon. A plan was drawn up to attack the Sheik Abdullah Hezbollah terrorist camp in Baalbek, Lebanon. The site housed Iranian Revolutionary Guards who were responsible for training Hezbollah terrorists. The plan was set to go, but Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger called it off at the last minute somehow to personal doubts over Iran's involvement. Reagan was reportedly furious but never followed through with his plan to hit the terrorist camp and Weinberger kept his job. Hezbollah threatened more attacks against American forces, unless the Marines left Lebanon by January 1, 1984. Though Reagan initially balked at the threat, he ordered the Marines removed to ships offshore and in February he formally ordered their withdrawal from Lebanon.

3. In 1984, CIA Beirut Station Chief Bill Buckley was kidnapped by Hezbollah. This was the incident which prompted Reagan to enter into the infamous Iran-Contra affair. Reagan attempted to gain the release of Buckley as well as other Americans being held hostage by the Islamic terrorist group by offering weapons to Iran. Missiles were sent to Iran, but Buckley was never returned. On October 4, 1985 Hezbollah announced that Buckley had been executed. It is believed that after a year of torture and malnourishment, the highly decorated Army officer and CIA operative died of pneumonia. This weakness in the face of terrorism undoubtedly emboldened Hezbollah which has grown more powerful since the early 1980's and has contributed to the rise of Muslim terrorists throughout the world. Though the bumbling efforts of President Carter may have first hinted to the Islamic world that the U.S. was a paper tiger, President Reagan solidified that notion and gave the green light for Islamic murderers to continue attacking Americans to this day.

4. In 1986, President Reagan signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act. That document granted amnesty to 4 million illegal aliens. According to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, 55 percent of those illegal aliens were Mexican nationals. The millions of Mexican invaders to whom Reagan granted amnesty stayed in this country, and their presence only served to encourage more Mexicans and Central Americans to enter this nation illegally. Reagan's decision to reward criminals by granting them amnesty was arguably the most disappointing action of his presidency. Last year, the American people came together and rejected amnesty for illegal aliens and rightfully characterized the architects of the legislation as traitors. However, it would be unfair to criticize criminal enablers such as John McCain and Ted Kennedy without recognizing the damage that Reagan caused to our nation of laws.

5. When Ronald Reagan took office in January 1981, the budget deficit was $74 billion and the national debt was $930 billion. By 1988, the budget deficit was $208 billion and the national debt had swelled to an incredible $2.6 trillion. In review of the relatively paltry Carter budget, Reagan declared it to be "out of control." However, he made no such claim of his record peacetime deficits.

Reagan's spending grew the size of government and set the stage for runaway government spending which has now taken our national debt to $9.2 trillion and has seen the U.S. shift from the largest creditor nation to the largest debtor nation. It could be said that Reagan's legacy leading this nation down the path to bankruptcy (to which we have now arrived).

Item 1 is at this site

The items 2-5 are at this site.

Now don't take me wrong, I loved Reagan and wish there was a candidate in this election that was like Reagan only more conservative, but sometimes politicians have to do things they do not like and/or make huge mistakes, even Ronald Reagan.

The very interesting and informative article that reference ends with the following:

So there you have it. As much as I hate to point out these facts about the man who no doubt restored our own confidence after Watergate and the Carter years, these are the facts. While Reagan was probably the best politician of our lifetime, he was not really a conservative and cannot fairly be given the title as the father of modern conservatism. No, that title should go to Gov. George Wallace. However, Wallace will always be branded a racist by the mainstream media as well as by gutless politicians.

Anyone who has studies Wallace and his policies knows that it was he who ushered in the conservative movement which took hold in the early 1980's. In fact, on occasion Reagan admitted to having been influenced by Wallace and his presidential campaigns.

The fact is that the Republican Party has never been truly conservative. Since the late 1970's they have tried to placate the Christian conservatives by merely giving them lip service, and it now appears that even that is coming to an end.

Though Reagan was no conservative, we as conservatives can take up his call for "rugged individualism" and strike out on our own, leaving behind the RINO Party. In 2008, we do not need another Ronald Reagan...We need another George Wallace!

I suggest you read the 2004 Rep platform

Border Security

"Our nation has been enriched by immigrants seeking a better life. In many cases, immigrants of the past fled violence and oppression searching for peace and freedom. All suffered and sacrificed but hoped for a better future for their children in America. Our nation has been enriched by their determination, energy, and diversity.

Ensuring the integrity of our borders is vital to ensuring the safety of our citizens. We must know the identity of all visitors who enter the United States, and we must knowwhen they leave. The US-VISIT system, which uses biometric data to better track theentry and exit of foreign travelers, has been implemented at more than 115 airports and ispresently being implemented at land border crossings. Reconnaissance cameras, borderpatrol agents, and unmanned aerial flights have all been increased at our borders."

"We must strengthen our Border Patrol to stop illegal crossings, and we will equipthe Border Patrol with the tools, technologies, structures, and sufficient force necessary tosecure the border. We will seek stiff penalties for those who smuggle illegal aliens intothe country and for those who sell fraudulent documents. We urge continued support forstate, local, and federal law enforcement to work in a cohesive manner in securing ourborders to prevent illegal entry.

Why didn't the WH or McCain support the 2005 Enforcement first bill, sponsored by Jim Sensenbrenner, that passed the House in Dec 2005? Why after more than six years after 9/11, the borders remain unsecured and the US-Visit act has still not been fully implemented?

Well, since the Democrats win no matter what lever I select, I will vote the local races and leave the Presidential column blank.

I want them to know that I took the time to show up, but I selected none of them.

I agree 110%. Of the 3 realistic choices left to this country for 2008, only McCain is remotely fit to be CinC, especially in wartime but also in peacetime. I share the antipathy of nearly everyone on this board to McCain on many issues, but the thought of Shrillary or Obama Hussein as CinC should cause severe nausea to every American.

We can argue ‘till the cows drop dead what to do beyond 2008 or how to save the Republican Party for conservatism, but with so many of our finest on the battlefields I cannot contemplate watching Shrillary or Obama taking over as CinC.
